Hey Berta, sounds like your thinking of an L shape like Paul was suggesting above?
I'm pretty against the L shape design (hate corner cupboards), so I'm definitely trying to make a galley work the best I can.
I've opted for a single sink bowl, as I've had one before and not missed the draining bowl. A full size dining table can fit at the front of the house so the bar only needs to fit 2 or 3 chairs.
I haven't decided on the floors (current floor in attached updates), on one hand I'm not a huge fan of the current tiles, but at the same time, they have been flawless since they were installed 30 years ago!

Updates:
Tried out using the raised 600mm units that IKEA sell to add more sense of space, as well as increasing the bar width. 1 option uses 600mm units all the way down the island, with a ~850mm deep worktop. The other option uses the 600mm partially, widens the worktop to ~1m and adds some shallow base cabinets on the backside to reclaim some of the lost storage in going with the 600mm bases.
Both options narrow the gap between both sides to 1200mm and 1100mm respectively. Will put some boxes in place on the weekend to simulate it in real-life to see if 1100 is maybe too narrow.
