To be honest I am sticking with MoGraph for now. It is a pain when you try to scatter 500k instances because the viewport kinda goes crazy (disabling MoGraph in the viewport is a must) but the preparation times are low.

From my experience SurfaceSpread is pretty amazing but not if you try to scatter a lot of stuff. Preparation times are long but the viewport is rocking.

CarbonScatter on the other hand, I heard its buggy but it can scatter a ton of stuff. Haven't tried it.

Hope someone can chime in here as well :)

Been using Carbon scatter for just over a year and i agree, it is pretty buggy so if you plan on purchasing it make sure you also purchase their maintenance pack along with it, otherwise you will  be very disappointed like myself. On the other hand, when the plugin does work, it is extremely helpful.

Hope someone can chime in here as well :)

I'm also using MoGraph with instances for grass when rendering with Corona.

Is the variation shader well converted when rendering with corona? Do you use it per object or per polygons?
It was simply ignored in my scenes, I will have to check why.

I typically use it with polygons, a way I usually check it's working is to use it on replace colour mode and drop a preset gradient in there to check it's converting per blade of grass or per leaf, etc.

Actually I wanted to ask you guys how you handle big grass amounts in some scenes (when MoGraph copies exceed 1000000). Even when rendering as an instances, it takes like 100GB from the hard drive to render it.
