Hi,

What's considered best practice when one wants to use HDRI lights? Not talking about domelights but standard rectangle lights.

Don't like to compare corona to other renderers but in vray there is a texture slot in the light properties where you can assign hdris. Like these; http://alsens.net/photo-studio-lights-hdr-30. In vray hdri in light texture slot is preferred over hdri textured geometry due to how the sampling algo works.

Tried to use a light material on a plane but rendertimes increase quite dramatically compared to normal lights (which I guess is normal) and even compared to an hdri sky.

It looks like applying textures to light objects is not supported yet.
There should be however virtually no penalty between, for example, a square light and a plane with Corona mtl applied.

This is strange. Textured emitters are on the feature list.

And IIRC they even worked with the old Blender + Standalone versions (before the switch to xml). Now they don't anymore.
Edit: Works with Blender & SA. UV is needed.

Also with C4D Version: A6 daily Oct 14 2016 (core 1.5 DailyBuild Oct 12 2016 legacy) they do... haven't had the chance to test later builds yet... ufuf.
