following this tutorial:
t=8s
i can get a kind of undefined volume fog - but no godrays.
Also the values for distance in the volumetric material I played with to get any kind of volume fog are completely differnt to the tutorial.
I started to day with the 1.5.1 hotfix download a trial period.

I will attach my scene and a reference render.
Would be great if someone could point me to a solution.

Hi, sorry for the delay! I'll take a look at your scene tomorrow and see if I am able to find out what is wrong. I hope it's not too late...

Not a useful post but personally interested in learning more about this, I also had problems getting 'god rays' in my scenes. I found having the sun within shot makes a massive difference, not sure if that helps you at all!

Sorry for the delay! Fixed. The problem was with:
1. Absorption distance - this can be sometimes confusing, so some experimenting was required
2. After lowering absorption distance the whole background became black - it was fixed by changing environment distance in Render Setup > Performance > Development/Experimental stuff.
The godrays are not clearly visible in this scene, but they do appear if you move camera/sun.

Thank you a lot.

Looks promising. Unfortunately I'm not using max 2017.

Can you save the scene downwards compatible to max 2014? Or at least max 2016?

Would be great. But you description should help me too.

Cheers

...but it's not there.

The devel/debug parameters are hidden by default - to expose them, go to System tab, click the System Settings button to open the dialog for system-wide settings (new in 1.5), and the checkbox for devel/debug is there. Check that, close the dialog, and head to the Performance tab and you will see those settings.
