Hi, just to make sure - what do you mean exactly by "more foliage"? Is it just more leaves on the trees, or more trees in general?
If it's the leaves, then you might be able to get away by isolating the leaves (do they have separate material ID or something else, that would make it possible to select the leaves only?), duplicating them, and then moving/rotating them a bit. The idea is to make more of them, and in different positions, but without making it obvious that they are duplicates.

You could try this :
1 - select your foliage (edit mesh > select by ID), then apply a MaterialByElement modifier (tick List Frequency and chose numbers of IDs you need + an extra ID)
2 - apply a Multi/Sub-Object Material to your object (with number of IDs corresponding to ones activated in the MaterialByElement modifier)
3 - link your existing CoronaMaterial(s) to the ID(s) dedicated
4 - make a perfectly invisible CoronaMaterial (black color in opacity slot or CoronaPortal)
5 - Assign this material to the corresponding extra ID
6 - Adjust the quantity of invisible leaves through the MaterialByElement modifier using %

It's a brutal way, but it can help for trees not that close ...
Regards.

add CoronaMultiMap to opacity slot and adjust how many leaves will be transparent via black and white colors variations. also add translucency to leaves to make them brighter at shadows, maybe your client will likes this

Begin is Alexander said.
-select your foliage (edit mesh > select by ID),
-Detach
If you have some ID for leaves now - prepare object for each ID (just to stay with same look after decreasing number of leaves)
-then apply a MaterialByElement modifier (tick List Frequency and chose numbers of IDs you need
-Edit mesh>select by ID
-Delete
- Make it for every detached object
-Attach back.

2 ID  in MaterialByElement modifier - removing 50% of leaves.
3 ID  in MaterialByElement modifier - removing 30% of leaves.
4 ID  in MaterialByElement modifier - removing 25% of leaves.
