I'm very new to Corona, but am loving every second of it.

I've searched online for HDRI set ups in Corona and am getting conflicting suggestions.

If I use a VRayHDRI in either the environment slot or the Render Dialog slot for Corona, that seems to work best IMO BUT I get warning messages that Interactive Rendering is unreliable when using VRayHDRI.

So to avoid that Warning Message, I use the CoronaBitmap and put a HDR file into the slot, but then the background doesn't look right (i.e. it doesn't look the same as when using the above method, instead it appears distorted, no matter what Environment Mode I try.

Any ideas for the correct way of doing this please ?

Thanks.

Can you show how this distorted background looks, never heard about that. In CoronaBitmap you have to use spherical mode, it have to be already set to it by default.
I'm not Corona Team member. Everything i say, is my personal opinion only.

From my experience they match in viewport, although at different angle. If you want to match them straight out of box directly you have to select in VrayHDRi "3dsMax standard" and that to environment:Spherical. Then the U=0.0 V=0.0 position will match exactly to Corona Spherical at U=0.0 V=0.0.

I've no idea why that is different than angle 0/360. Also why they generate thumbnails differently, where Corona always show full spherical in square thumb, and VrayHDRi shows actual perspective (although I doubt how that is useful at all).

For what it's worth, I never had a crash with VrayHDRi in interactive. CoronaBitmap needs massive improvement to be considered usable, it has currently no tangible benefits. VrayHDRi elliptical filtering also seems quite superior.
So I use VrayHDRi nonetheless and live on edge ;- )

edit:dyslectic typo, meant interactive, not viewport
