Hi Corona Community,

I need some piece of advice from the more experienced 3D artists here. What do you think can be improved on the attached render? All comments are more than welcome.

For the render:
I only use Corona Sun + Environment, no extra lights. All materials are with good albedo.

Thanks in advance!
Veronika

Hi, my thoughts:
-the image is underexposed, it should be brighter
-the repeating textures on the wooden planks to the left and the cupboard doors are far too obvious
-some materials like the floor and the stone furniture are lacking reflectivity (probably)
-the curtains seem very heavy and the wrinkles are not really realistic
-some background visible behind the window wood change a lot

Generally my advice would be to take a look at some nice interior photos (not necessarily CG renders) and try to reproduce the effects you see there and the overall atmosphere. IKEA catalogues are a great (and free!) source of inspiration.

Hi. I agree with all the points mentioned by Mary, and have a couple of additional remarks:

- There seems to be some smoothing problem on 4 high cabinets in the right side back in the room. You can see it in the reflections following the edges.

- Even though there's plenty of lamps in the kitchen, there's no good working light at the kitchen counter to the left, because the light is placed so you're casting shadows on the working area when working. In real life I would rearrange the lamps.

Regarding the "stone furnitures" - as Maru describes them: Are they meant to be stone or concrete or should they be made of some sort of metal?

Hope it helps

BTW - For initial testing and learning, I would recommend getting rid of the curtains, allowing more daylight comming into the room.

Edit: see that Nekrobul got ahead of me with some of the things :)

Maru, thank you for the comments. I know about the exposure, however I always have the impression that people tend to overexpose images either in photography, or 3D visuals. That can be easily tweaked in Lightroom, or Photoshop, along with the background outside.
Yes, now when you mentioned perhaps I need to increase the reflectivity slightly, although I was looking for matt finish.  The material on the kitchen island and worktops is supposed to be some sort of concrete – concrete layer on top.
I will get rid of the curtains and look in images. Thanks for the piece of advise!

Nekrobul, thank you for hoovering over my image, but I don’t quite understand your comments. What do you mean by “not okay”? I agree that the tiling should be different, perhaps the curtains are not the best models ever and the bar stool as well. Instead of importing models I wanted to make them myself. I know I have a lot to improve in terms of geometry and modelling, so I would appreciate if you get a bit more detailed. Only if you have the time.

Proh, I noticed the problem with the cupboards, but I couldn’t identify the source. :(
The lights can be better positioned, that’s true. As I said I will look into removing the curtains and improving on the worktops material.

Thank you all for your comments. I really appreciate your remarks. I will look into improving the scene and post the result.

Cheers :)

Hi Veronika.

The problem with the cupboards is wrong smoothing groups. I can't see exactly how they are made, but it looks like they have round corners and (should have) flat/planar front. If that's the case them select the planar polygons and remove the smoothing group. I think that should do it, but if that gives you an unwanted sharp edge between the rounded part and the planar part, then select the planar polygons, put back the smoothing group, make an insert (1-2 cm), and remove the smoothing group from the mid planar polygons.

Hope it helps

BTW - I think Nekrobuls "Not OK" means something like "it's not realistic" (drawer fronts made of thick concrete) or "it doesn't do anything good for your visualization" (cheap white melamine furniture). But I might be wrong ;)

About this "not ok" things.

Kitchen and kitchen isle - modeling and this (concrete? metall?) texture. There sould be gaps in between parts of the citchen i mean the parts it is beeing asembled from in real life. And about the material it most definetly should be more reflective and should have some structure bump ref map for more detail.

Curtains - sometimes it is better to download things.

Bar stools - Try to watch Viscorbel's tutorials on how to model furniture, those are very understandable and he gives an insane amount of very usable texniqueswich will alow you to create desired result http://viscorbel.com/

White thing in lower left corner - i belive for composition it will be better if it will be outside the frame.
