the bucket feature was removed in 1.4 ... ram management in bucket method is better than progressive for massive scene rendering ... and priority in 1.4 is always set to low !

well ... maybe the solution is VFB+

No it is not.
Bucket mode  did not include any kind of out of core offloading. There is no memory management code involved in Bucket different than in progressive.
All change you have seen must have been from other circumstances or placebo.

The only reason bucket was made is prototyping adaptivity. Now that adaptivity is fully implemented bucket mode is obsolete and was removed.

Exept render history and A/B compare there are no new features in corona 1.4's VFB.

seems that adaptivity in 1.4 is useless ! (strange render time)
just denoiser with noise limit is good feature!

Well it has sped up every single Scene I rendered for the past months. Same for other people. It only has a small recalc penalty every 5 passes, but in return you get not having to sample noisy parts of the image for more time than other parts. Adaptivity for me has made the single most biggest difference, for many others who test out the daily builds aswell.

If you think you found a place where adaptivity does not improve sampling or even makes it worse, report it as a bug with how to reproduce or a example scene, devs will jump on it and fix it in no time. But so far not a single complaint has been posted with actual evidence, thus adaptivity runs just fine and as it should. It is a silent image improver, not as flashy as increasing rays/s or denoising.
Your feature reqeust concerns Memory management. This has not been changed at all. If you have memory issues there are ways to help that instead.

Damn Ondra is just a big ol Hitler. All Corona users to arms, let's bring the oppressive system down with a revolution!

No seriously, have some respect for the work of the developers. No body forced you to upgrade to 1.4, besides the fact that it isn't even out.
You can use whatever tool you want. You can suggest things in the appropriate sub forum and the devs listen. But insulting the work of others will not make any solutions happen.

Make a bug report if you believe something doesn't work as it should. If you don't appreciate a change or lack there of, explain it with a normal type face, otherwise your voice will be ignored.

"Let's not delete the harsh facts"
Obviously we agree to disagree.
Let's not repeat the cycle of New accounts and just don't use Corona.

Solid Angle's Arnold renderer has been known for exeptional Memory Manangement, compression and smart offloading, although not for speed.
The Film Elysium was rendered on 16gb Mac Pros. Consider that instead.

Good luck with your endeavors.
