I thought the IES slot can be alternatively used as texture but seems it only takes IES profile.

I would like to map regular texture (caustic bitmap in this case) into CoronaLight just like VrayLight can do. Is there any other solution currently outside of mapping light material to geometry or using 3dsMax standard spotlight ? Not fan of either..

You're probably talking about projector map, as CoronaLight already has texmap slot. Quick search revealed Ondra's standpoint about projectors: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,340.msg2419.html#msg2419

That was two years ago, don't know if things changed since.

I hope it changed :D it doesn't say much ;)

I haven't used it in the last couple of years but may I ask why you don't like to use the max standard spotlight for it? I thought, paired with CoronaShadows, it should be sufficient for most use cases.
Any sufficiently advanced bug is indistinguishable from a feature.

CoronaLight projection option gives BLURRY result, very blurry. Max standart SPOT is OK, except that Corona cannot see it throught a mirror (it sees coronalight without problems, but as I said - Coronalight projection is blurry)

That's because Corona Lights are area lights. The same thing would happen in real life.
