Irrational.. illusion.. delusion.. movies.. what's the purpose in saying all this? The scene I provided includes HDRI as well, if you are familiar with such scene setups you would probably know that in such cases a PureSky type of HDRI is used just to illuminate the scene, since you are interested in rationality you should probably notice that those big boxes in the scene and their relation with the sun is showing the direction..

This is a technical question side of the art direction not the art direction itself, we are seeking methods of limiting the light source to a specific area and not how they are used according to photo references.

Right, while you mention some good points but all that doesn't solve this issue. Most corona or archviz users achieve this effect only in cases the blocking geometries / sun are out of the camera that's why it becomes harder for you to solve I guess, because focusing the light on a specific area in a cloudy day or like the PSA reference I showed doesn't need a photo reference! I guess I should explore some other approaches!

You can make shadow softer by moving blocking object farther from the subject. Of course you would also have to make it bigger so that its shadow remains at constant size. Changing sun's size is a cheat, so it's better to avoid that if possible.

Can't say much about volume fog though, since i barely ever use it.

Thanks for your suggestion, I usually try all this stuff to achieve the desired result but still hard to get what I want. You know my purpose is concept art so I have to manipulate everything I can to see what I had in my mind, this way I have to increase the sun size, maybe if it was possible to do all this with only HDRI and no sun it would be better but in one hand it's hard to find a good HDRI map among 1000's of confusing ones and also the scene loses light directionality without having a direct light source. About volume fog I am using a big box here with a corona volume light applied, that's what we usually do in blender.

It can be done quite closely to what can be achieved w "Physical Sky & Atmosphere"... but first would be nice to see what your current result looks like.
Here's a quick test w/ latest daily.

Edit:
Added "Volume effect"

Thanks for your effort Burnin, I really appreciate your time and attention to this issue by making a test scene, I am happy you're familiar with PSA addon, honestly I wanted to make this scene in blender but I am really tired of Cycles as I cannot get those deep light and shadows of corona with it..

Your result is really good, I guess one problem here in my scene is that the sun itself also exists in camera view making it hard to hide undesired issues like blocking geometries (either plane or cube) with the ground. Another problem is that I still get sharp shadows in contact areas between the building and the ground, and that's interesting it's not happening in your scene. Anyways as you mentioned I have attached the scene and its screenshot to see your opinions.

Thanks Romullus for always response, yeah I meant blocking the sun with geometry to achieve the cloudy day effect and focusing the sun on specific areas of the scene, I didn't mean the eclipse effect. The problem I am facing in corona is that this method doesn't work very well when there is volume fog in the scene, also big sun size that's necessary for soft shadows makes it worse, there's a lot of light diffusion in the scene which covers the blocking geometries making them practically useless, so it won't be possible to focus or limit the light to a specifc area. If you decrease the sun size it will be easier to get more directionality but the problem is that the shadows will become sharp and that's not desired for an artistic cloudy day soft mood.

Despite Corona, GI is very weak in Blender Cycles so it's really easy to block the sun by placing some geometries in front of it because there's almost no light interactions in Cycles which makes it good for that sun blocking purpose!

[C4D] General Discussion / Blocking the sun like in Blender

Hi,
It seems it's not possible to limit or block the sun in corona to get the effect like this render in blender, that's right?

Thanks for the answer, yeah I understand, you know I was also a Max user but I should see how can I achieve similar result in Cinema 4d, in blender I can easily get the best results for this purpose and totally height blend materials but the problem is that blender's native render engine lacks Corona light & shadow depth..

Thanks Romullus, that's awesome result, I hadn't used this shader before.. and could the height blend be randomized? For example for scattered plants, so that the soil covered area doesn't look the same on multiple plants.

Hi, is it possible to get a material blend between 2 objects in corona like this one in Unreal Engine?

Also is it possible to have a material blend in Y direction on one object?

Hardware / Re: Threadripper & Ryzen builds

Thanks for the reply, the main problem here is that people have bought all the components from the market when they were cheaper so now there's a mass shortage of critical components like Motherboard, as I see now all x870e motherboards are almost out of stock here, there are some TUF x870 as well as Gigabyte ones but I don't know how they work. There is only one shop having x870e Mobos 1000km far from me so I should decide to really rely on this shop or just forget the 9950x and go for the 7950x..

Same story about EXPO and Corsair memories, since I need 96gb they are either so expensive here or non-EXPO .. thanks for your recommendation, I should check the MB QVL as well.

Regarding the cooler, yeah you are right, I found out that it's very noisy so I don't want it really cuz I hate the noise and I want the most quiet one, unfortunately the Be Quiet brand doesn't exist here so I should search for the most possible silent coolers here. Because of the noise I might totally avoid a 420 one, I am not sure really.

Also thanks for the case and other suggestions, if other people can also help here about the whole build choices I would appreciate it.

Hi Vuk,

While I find Juraj's answer very helpful but your answer is also very detailed and closer to my current situation, honestly I was a bit disappointed about Mobo and RAM as I really didn't know what to do, but now I have a more clear view. Your experience with building 2*9950x systems helps a lot.

You know it's easier for my budget to get the 7950x but its issue with 192GB RAM as you mentioned gives me enough excuse to go for the 9950x, I can explain my workflow so it might help more: I make cinematic scenes like movies in Cinema4d/Corona so my scenes are mostly very huge including a lot of 3d scans, this way I easily get the Corona memory error in IPR compilation phase or the scene becomes so laggy, on the other hand I use After Effects with a lot of effects that results in lack of memory in RAM Preview so fast. Because of all that I should really have a lot of RAM, 128GB might sound good for me coming from a 64GB system but 192GB is really ideal to make big scenes.

I was in doubt about the EXPO but since all 4 slots are gonna be naturally occupied then I can avoid it, right? however I guess 2*48GB EXPO don't exist in my living country. Also because of my budget I can only buy 2*48gb for now and I should add another 2*48gb later. Is it ok this way?

So about the MB since I should go for the X870e chipsets then I would liked to know your opinion as well, ASUS ProArt X870e Creator seems to be the most solid one, that's right? or you suggest other ones as well? I should mention that unfortunately the ASRock brand doesn't exist in my country, but I am also afraid of the Gigabyte chipsets. If you can tell me your opinion about this I would be happy as well, because I am really concerned about the MB. This is the list they gave me today in the shop after a lot of consultation:

ASUS Ryzen 9950x
ASUS TUF X670e Plus
Corsair Vengeance 2*48gb 5600
Samsung 990 Pro 1 tb
ASUS RTX 4070 TI Super OC
Corsair H170i elite Capellix xt
Corsair HX1000 80 Plus Platinum
Deepcool Morpheus Case

So since we are gonna change some parts in this list I would liked to ask these questions as well:

Is their suggested case good? they had some other suggestions as well but they finally offered DeepCool Morpheus. Unfortunately as I see all Fractal cases are out of stock here based on what I see. So if you have other suggestions as well I really appreciate it.

Also unfortunately the Arctic brand doesn't exist here anymore otherwise I'd have gotten that one in first place. So what do you think about the Cooler? Considering if 420 has a real sense over 360, I would be happy to know your opinion.

I also wanted to know your opinion about getting a Gen5 SSD, does it make sense for our work considering its price? has it a real effect when loading 3d scenes, compilation and also video editing? or that 990 gen4 is enough?

If you can answer fast I would really appreciate it, I need the PC for working on a serious project and I am just stuck.. Thanks in advance

Friends is it relevant to ask questions regarding new builds here? or better to make a new thread?

If correct to ask here then the main issue is that I am stuck between choosing 7950x and 9950x for my new build..
It might be helpful to mention that 9950x is twice price as 7950x in my area, also 7950x ones could be only found in Tray stacks that I don't know how much I can trust, however they claim to have a good replacement warranty..

Can I know your opinion what's the best to do in such situation? Going for the 7950x or the 9950x? Is 10-15 percent performance increase of 9950x worth it? (I use interactive view a lot, so not just I use the CPU constantly but I need high speed too)

If we can pass this step, can you recommend the correct components for the build?
My concerns after choosing the CPU are:

- Good Motherboard with good VRM tolerating the high stress I give the CPU, supporting PCIe 5th gen (if it really helps faster workflow), 128 or 192 GB RAM support
- A final solution for the RAM: 2*2*48 / 2*2*32 GB 5200 corsair vengeance with AMD Expo?
- A decent but not expensive AIO and PSU
- Fractal Define Torrent for the case as always recommended or something else? (My living area is mostly hot)

Thanks in advance,

Hi Beanz,

Your attached example looked really nice, to which channel do you add the Thin-Film shader? And I was curious, does it only work with Metal presets? Thanks,

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Corona Render & Xpresso?

New update:

The baked Corona Lights don't even work with LightMix (to compensate the lack of Range Mapper with Corona Light) and everything is messed up..

14
Okay, thanks for letting me know. If you can, please feel free to send me the scene via a support ticket (link in my signature below) and I'll take a look for you. :)

While reducing the scene for uploading I remembered to use Highlight Clamping and it indeed solved the fireflies issue, but the only drawback is that it will kill the Dynamic Range in the final render, that's right?

Thanks friend, sure I will send it.
