Thx mate.  One thing i noiitced is, the 4090 has a single 16pin cable and the 3080 has a dual 8 pin.  Do I need specific adapters or something?

quick one guys - i have a gaming machine, with a 3080Ti and my main rendering rig has a 4090.  I was thiking of swapping them to get the better card for gaming but i absolutely do NOT want to affect my main machines viewport performance.  I only use Corona render (3ds max) for my work but i dont want it to affect the FPS or heavy scenes - what are your thoughts on this?  do you think it will affect my main rendering rig much with this swap?

It won't.

hey Maru - what did you mean by this:
The workaround is to use the "data image" or "raw" option when saving the mask. Or as you mentioned saving in the exr format.
WHen i save as a TIF, i see DATA image but whjen i click on it, it activates the 1.0 gamma override.  What is the raw option?

All clear now and we also have the culprit, please see this thread:
https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=44489.0

Apparently, everything is affected by the 3ds Max OCIO color management, including masks.
The workaround is to use the "data image" or "raw" option when saving the mask. Or as you mentioned saving in the exr format.

We will see if we can fix that, but honestly I don't think so (and not sure if we want to).

Thanks for confirming that - i thought i was going crazy all these years.  Funny thing is that, when i first started with VRAY over 10 year ago, i never had this problem.  It has always been a corona issue.
FOr me personally, think its super important.

For now I can recommend saving render elements in .exr format or switching to 3ds Max Gamma 2.2 color management mode.

Hey Maru - sorry youre right.  I mean Alpha Masks.  It never masks out the backlground properly.  Atleast it didnt - i think i discovered why.
When saving out a TIF 16 bit, it wasnt using the alpha mask correctly.  However when i exported out to EXR - it worked fine i believe.

15 years, still learning.

I couldn't understand this part:
it seems when i apply the coroan mask to the beauty, its a little darker and i manually have to adjust the masks levels to make it that little more transparent

Can you explain what exactly you mean by that?
And generally, do you mean rendering masks (for example a white mask of an object) or render elements? (for example CShading_xxx render elements which can be composed back into Beauty)

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone else faces this problem.  I save out my masks in TIF (16 bit) and i find that when im doing a scene such as an interior scene, the mask isnt perfect.  FOr instance, if im doing an interior scene looking out of a balcony that has glass and glass doors/windows - it seems when i apply the coroan mask to the beauty, its a little darker and i manually have to adjust the masks levels to make it that little more transparent.  This can be an issue when applying a mask to things such as sheer curtains - does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks mate - yep i just figured that one out thankyou for the response.

I edited the post, my max25 seems way slower than 24.  Its more stuttery.

It looks like antialiasing is turned on in your 3ds Max 2025 - look for it in viewport configuration.

Hi guys

i just ported over to Max 25 and ive noticed that the edge thickness is sooooo thick - see comparison with the attached.
Does anyone know where the setting is for this? ive looked all over and cant find the solution.

EDIT - i found the solution, ive attached it.  i set the antialiasing quality to NONE.

Another question, does anyone else experiencing a slower max 25 than 24?  mine is way slower in terms of viewport navigation.

Thanks gang.

definitely an improvement with the latest HOTFIX - well done team :)  More of that please :)

Thought - seeing as though the only thing that is still bad and i dont think its all corona related - is the material editor.  It would be great if corona had its very own material editor, outside of autodesk with the hope that the UI is completely in the hands of the Corona team.  the material editor in Max has forever been laggy.  I did write a post on this with a supporting video.

great to hear! when can we expect a fix?  i assume it will be a hotfix?

Little update on this (responsiveness drop/slowdown with IR, v13 DBs, after some point, and v12 update 1):

We narrowed down the issue and have found one of the reasons of this, and it has been fixed internally.
There are some leftovers/cases where responsiveness drop can be observed and these are being handled as well.

Yep that's the one.  So it's a bug or just that it has a downside?
