Romullus,

Thanks for your reply and suggestion.  After I posted, I decided to open an earlier version of the project (I have been working on this project for many months and have many saved versions of it).  I have been successful in getting Corona Interactive Render as well as the production render to work with this older file.  I am beginning to think that the version of the project that I have been working on recently has become corrupted.  It could possibly be because of the use of the Pro Optimizer that I used to reduce the number of polys on most of the objects in the project.  The un-optimized version that I got to work has over 13 million polys, where as I got the optimized one down to just over 7 million polys.  I did not seem to encounter any issues during the many uses of the Pro Optimizer in 3ds Max, so I have no idea if corruption did occur.  Is there a way to check a 3ds Max file for areas that might be corrupted?  If I selected an object or several objects and asked Corona to render them, would this help in isolating where the problem might be located?  Got any suggestions?  I am thankful for all of your help.

Regards,

Tom

Hello all,

For the past several days, I have been having increasing problems trying to use Corona either as Active Render or the regular render.  I have loaded each of the daily builds as soon as they come out and it seems that each time I load the latest build, the crashing of 3ds Max is just getting worse.  As soon as I ask Corona to render, 3ds Max immediately crashes.  If I ask it to use Active Render, it doesn't crash immediately, but it hangs forever and even though there is no CPU activity, I can't get the program to respond.  I have even reduced the size of the Max file and still with each daily build loading, the crashing just keeps getting worse.  It really appears to me that Corona now has something in it that is not compatible with 3ds Max.  Have any of you fellow Corona users experienced anything like this? I don't know what I can do to get things back working like they were a couple of weeks ago.  Any suggestions?  By the way, I am using Windows 10 and until recently, everything was working very well with 3ds Max and Corona.

Thanks,

Tom

Maru,

Thanks for your reply with questions for me to investigate.  I had prepared several pictures of screen shots showing various stages of work and as I was about to start a dialogue about what was in each picture, I re-read your questions and when I got to the one about "show safe frames," I knew that I was not using that setting.  So I activated it and adjusted the position of the plane with vegetation on it and then opened the Active Render.  The results was that what was in the "safe" area of the preview screen was exactly what was shown in the rendering!  I also did a regular render with the same results, so my problem is solved.  Thanks so much for taking the time to lead me through things that could have been causing the problem.

Tom

Hello all,

I am having an issue where Corona is not rendering exactly what is shown in the preview window.  I have tried perspective as well as camera previews and the results are the same.  I am using the latest daily builds and have the same results if I have the Active render open or if I do an actual render.  What is happening is this: I have an HDRI image set to environment and spherical and adjust it so that it is positioned correctly with a plane on which I am placing plants.  I adjust the angle of the camera and move the plane until there is no empty space above or below the plane showing in the preview window.  However, the render (active or otherwise) will show space where none is visible in the preview window.  I hope that I am doing something wrong and not something going wrong with Corona.  I love Corona because of the quality and ease of use; however, this kind of problem is frustrating and uses up a huge amount of time to get the desired results.  Can someone give me some feedback as to what might be the problem (I hope it is me).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions for me to try.

Hello everyone,

I just purchased and downloaded a male rigged character (CMan0002-M3-CS_STD.max) from AXYZ.  It also included Mental Ray as well as V Ray files.  I opened the Standard file and the materials show in the viewport set to the realistic view.  I opened the Corona Converter v1.13 and "converted", at least I thought I did, to Corona materials and then rendered.  I got the dreaded red "Unsupported mtl: DirectX Shader".  What have I not done properly?  Do I have to load all of the materials into the Materials Editor before converting them?  Could someone please help me?

Thanks,

Tom

Do any of you that use Corona also use XFrog plants and 3ds Max and have success rendering a scene?  I have tried over and over to get a properly rendered scene using different XFrog trees and so far, I have not had any success.  I am fairly sure that I have the maps properly located and identified in 3ds Max as to their location.  Even if I import and merge a tree into a 3ds Max scene, apparently there are missing maps.  I bought the Basic and the USA Conifers libraries several months ago and have yet to get a successful render!  I got so frustrated at first that I just decided to forget about using XFrog and searched for other plant libraries.  I downloaded the 4 free Laubwerk plants and trees and was very happy with the ease of using them and with their rendered quality, but so far, I have not purchased any of their products.  I was certainly hoping that I could get XFrog to work.

Obviously, I would like to be able to use the products that I purchased, so if someone can give me some suggestions about how to get the XFrog items to work properly, I will be most appreciative.

juang3d,

I appreciate your reply; however, I am still not sure what you said means.  I am just a novice at using this very complicated program, so could you give me examples of what you have described.  Where do I activate the "Show in viewport" switch in the MAP and how does that differ from activating it in the MATERIAL.  I was just working on a test scene where I applied a Siger Studio Corona car paint color to an object in the scene.  There was no visibility of the color in the viewport, so I clicked on one of the components of the multi-layered color and it took me to a window where there was a box with the M inside.  I clicked on this and the "Show in viewport" icon became available.  I clicked on this and the Max crashed immediately!  Unfortunately, this is an example of the kinds of things I have been experiencing trying to get consistent visibility of maps (materials?) in the viewport.  It seems that there is an infinite number of variables that keep changing and I have no idea of how I can "control" them.  I am certainly open to any further suggestions from anyone especially those who are using Corona 1.0 and the Siger Studio Corona materials.

Thanks,

Tom

DeadClown,

Thanks for your reply and information.  I have done what you indicated I should do, but there are still materials that will not show in the viewport.  I tried the tool in the Corona converter script and that did not make any difference.  I have made a test scene in which I have a cube and a sphere onto which I have placed various materials while the Interactive render window is open.  I have not completed the test; however, I have discovered that in the group of Stiger Studio Corona materials, none of the glass materials will show in the viewport, but they show up in the Interactive renderer window as I change from one material to another one.  Also, none of the glass materials give access to what you show in the animation (the square with the M in it).  I will continue to investigate different materials to see if I can find a common thread running through the "see it or not see it" situation.

Again, I thank you for your help.

Hi,

I love CORONA; however, I have a frustrating situation that I have not been able to resolve.  When I have CORONA 1.00.01 selected as my renderer and use CORONA materials, I can't get them to show in the viewport.  Not being able to see how the maps align with the surfaces of an object means that I can't see how to adjust their position if it is needed.  Here is a "crazy" situation: I have VIZ PARK Walls and Tiles as well as Siger Studio CORONA materials and if I place one of the VP diffuse maps on an object (cube in this case), the map is visible in the viewport.  By the way, the perspective viewport has been changed to a camera viewport.  Just to see what would happen, I used the script to change the material to a CORONA material and it immediately disappeared from the viewport.  I can load any of the Siger Studio materials on the cube and NONE of them have visible maps in the viewport, but the materials render.  I have loaded an Arch & Design material (bricks) in a material slot in the Compact Material Editor and then applied it to the cube.  The map is visible in the viewport.  Then I decided I would use the script to change it to a CORONA material to see what wouild happen, and the map instantly disappeared; however, when I render the scene, the material is there.

At this point, I am totally baffled as to what is going on.  I have the very latest version of all of the programs and the latest daily build of CORONA, so I have no idea if it is a bug in CORONA or an incompatibility issue.  Regardless of the cause, I am getting more frustrated as the days (I mean literally days of working on this) go on.  Can someone suggest what to do?  I will be very grateful if you have a solution.

Regards,

Tom

[Max] I need help! / Corona won't let 3dsMax open
« on: 2015-01-01, 23:56:58 »
I have the free version of corona installed and have tried it out with 3ds Max 2013.  It is one of several renderers that I have tried and since it was programmed to quit working after 12-31-14, I knew that I would have to decide if I wanted to purchase it after that time.  Today being 1-1-15, I tried to open 3ds Max and since corona is now non-functional, it won't let 3ds Max open.  I very much need some information about how to correct this problem.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Please let me know what to do.

Thanks,

Tom
