The sky material wouldn't go into the material override - what that will do is make every object render with that material applied and is generally used to make clay renders for test purposes (see https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000035829-how-to-create-clay-renders-in-corona-renderer-for-cinema-4d-)

One thing though, for the Sky material, the CoronaLight material should be used (see https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000030781-how-to-set-up-hdri-environment-in-corona-for-c4d-)

As soon as you have added that CoronaLight material to the Sky object, it will both create lighting, and generate reflections, refractions etc. and you can stop there :)

That's not to say that the crash isn't something that might need fixing, as the Mtl Override should work with any material placed in, but it does mean you can avoid that crash in setting up your scene as it is not a step you should be doing. If there was something specific you wanted to achieve other than have an HDRI image used for lighting, background, reflections and refractions though, let us know!

There is currently an issue with the Global fog material in recent builds (the ones with IR). I've reported it on Mantis - the Volume material on objects still works though (just be sure the camera clipping plane is outside the fog object). Once all is up and running as expected again, be sure to check the helpdesk article on the topic - https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000035577-how-to-use-volumetrics-

It will only work with Interactive Rendering - naturally for a final render, it will only obey the render regions set before you render, and you can't move them around (you wouldn't want your final render shifting processing onto different parts as you'd get inconsistent results in a final). Click and hold on the Render option and use Start IR instead :)

[Max] Daily Builds / Re: Daily Builds 1.7

I don't recall seeing this mentioned, apologies if it is a repeat - with the CoronaCam, when I select it using the line (to catch both target and camera) the 3ds Max translate / rotate / scale widgets don't work properly, it's like I can't select the "adjust in a single dimension" options. Works fine with native Max cams, and works if CoronaCam or its target are selected individually (though after having selected with the connecting line, it seems like clicking on just the CoronaCam wants to select both again, until I select something else).

This is Max 2017, 1.7 RC 7. I hadn't noticed it before so it may be new.

Aha, and that leads to what might be a way of getting back that overnight render - rename to EXR, open in Photoshop, rename the layers, save to EXR, rename to .CXR, open in CIE. Worked here on the test example you gave (again, using EXR-IO, not the native PS EXR open and save, not sure how that would do :) )

In case it helps in the meantime, the info would be recoverable in some form by renaming the cxr to exr, which will allow it to be opened in Photoshop etc. On loading it there (through EXR-IO in my case) the RGBA channel is visible and usable.

You can move around a render region exactly like that, as a resizable brush to "paint in" areas of focus :) Once you have the render region the size you want, just click it and drag it around the image to paint in areas of interest.

Corona VR is in fact a separate app, there's no iOS version at present.

Since Corona VR doesn't generate or use any HTML, I take it you are exporting and generating HTML using something else (that is, using Corona to render a VR image, but then something else to generate the HTML for viewing that image in a browser) - to avoid confusion, probably worth a separate thread on the topic, with information on what you were using to create the HTML, then perhaps some iOS users will be able to share how they get things working with Safari.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Lightmix issues
« on: 2017-10-03, 17:38:36 »
NP! It's handy to run IR, adjust lighting in the LightMix (without having to find and tweak actual lights), then use >Scene to bake that back into the scene, and then presto can render the final Beauty with that look!

The video tutorial on LightMix is at

in case that is useful too.

Beauty is always the standard Beauty - the LightMix pass is the one that shows the results of the LightMix, leaving the Beauty untouched :) You can choose to save either, or both, the LightMix and Beauty as your finals. If you (for whatever reason) need the Beauty with the LightMix settings in it, you have to bake the LightMix to scene, and re-render. Hope this helps!

The C4D helpdesk has been (and is being / will be) updated, so always worth keeping an eye on as you never know when new pages will appear :)

In this instance, the topic of CXR is there under Resume Rendering at https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000035761-how-to-pause-and-resume-rendering-with-corona-renderer-for-cinema-4d- with a handy screen capture :)  (it already needs updating as there is a Dump to EXR and resume rendering options in the Picture Viewer under the Corona menu now too!)

Global Volumetrics no longer render (offline, or in IR).

In a test with an object with a volumetric material applied, it rendered in offline, but if I changed the absorption distance in the material and rendered in offline again, it crashed (can send crash report if useful, let me know!). It's not the value, as if I change the value before rendering, it renders fine first time. I can re-render so long as I don't change the value, too. Interestingly, I can change the value while IR is running, and there's no crash and the render updates as expected.

Thanks!

There's also a guide for C4D materials that includes water and glass with volumetric absorption:
