[Max] Bug Reporting / Re: Camera map epr pixel
« on: 2021-12-13, 10:43:16 »
Hi guys,

I am messing around with a project which needs to be photomatched.
For this purpose trying to use  3ds max Camera Map per pixel. If using Corona Bitmap - inside Camera map per pixel, regardless of the bitmap mode(screen, mirrorball, etc), it gives wrong results.
As soon as use 3ds max default bitmap loader, the textures applies to the surfaces correctly.

Not super important, but was wondering if there are some limitations when using Corona bitmap in conjunction with Camera map per pixel? Corona 7 SP1, 3ds max 2020.

Have You tried with Corona AO or possibly Corona Wire maps?
Apart from that - think CGTricks have some sort of a tutorial - Push/ Flip normal modifiers for the objects and Corona Front/Back  Texmap.

Actually if one has Vray installed, Vray Aerial perspective works inside Corona, as long as one put disabled Vray Sun.

Hi everyone,

Hope all of us have had a warm celebration of the holidays and are well.

Would like to present a  project which had the chance to work on over the past 14 months. To be honest, maybe the most exhausting so far, despite the relatively small scale.
The project is an interior one, and comprises of 6 storey floor renovation a historical house in NYC.
Initially built in 1884 and designed by James Ware, the building currently undergoes an interior renovation, and addition of two penthouse floor levels.

Many external and custom assets used. Despite the heavy RAM consumption at some of the scenes, I am pretty impressed by the solid performance of Corona Renderer!

Hope You like it!

clouds - how? VDB file?

By looking at the point cloud data it is obviously VDB clouds.

I am interested if there are other volumetric effects rendered inside Corona and if so, if the mode he has used the volumetric material. I seem to get a bonding box-like effect most of the time when VDB interacts with volumetric effect.

Hi there,

So I have this railclone ready package and use it for projects but I encounter some really long file parsing and it becomes sluggish to work with.

It looks like Corona (or MAX) is converting all the railclone refs to geometry before rendering and it takes ages and of course a lot of polys and RAM. Is there someone else who encountered this and\or has a workaround for this? I unfortunately don't have that much knowledge of Railclone lite and I don't know where to begin tackling this issue.

I have this pack and completely omit using it alongside Railclone.  Try using  Forest pack instead in spline mode for instance.
Personally use RC quite a lot, but as a rule of thumb - eveyrhting related to Architecture and hard-surface - good to go with RC. Everything organic with leaves regardless of scale - FP.
This could be a quite general advice, but is a good start.

Have to acknowledge the fact that back in 2017/18 Corona + 3ds max 2018+ both iToo plugins worked bit smoother.

Is there a known bug when using Corona 6 RC4 and Forest pack?
Experiencing quite strange behaviour  with the following combo - win 10, latest build, 3ds max 2020, latest service pack, Corona 6 RC 4, and Forest pack 6.3.0.

A particular scene just stopped rendering any Forest pack object. If copy any object from this scene into an empty one and then try to populate Forest pack over those objects or any new ones, FP just does not render.
Vray renders perfectly those, regardless of the scene. I will try the same scene with 3ds max 2018 and Corona 5.

Edit: The same scene does not work with Corona 5 and 3ds max 2018 as well. FP just does not work for some reason with this scene.
If new one - it works, unless merge any element. At the same time Vray handles the scene with no issues. Attaching images.

Yes, I do. Tested with the 3d mouse disconnected, same. I remember experiencing issues with latest drivers from 3dconnexion and used old ones for quite a long time. Recently decided to update those, as the buttons stopped working witht the old ones, and switched 3ds max 2018 for 2020.

Update - The same issue with older 3ds max and corona 5.  It must be issue not related to Corona Renderer.

Do you have a 3dconnection mouse?

Hi guys,

Playing around with latest Corona 6 RC2, alongside 3ds max 2020, latest service packs both for windows 10 (2004) and 3ds max 2020.
Dual Xeon v4, 128GB ECC, Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti.
No Railclone or Forstpacks inside the scene, just a bunch of CAD groups and the 3d model, currently building.

Experiencing really strange viewport behaviour:

As soon as add corona camera to the scene , try to view through it, with selected object, the viewport either ghosts the rest of the objects or hides objects, until I click at an empty spot inside the viewport.

Can not reproduce this behaviour with Perspective mode being active.

Bulgarian here.... Respect for the awesome work,  ton amount of work and the unique  style!
I really enjoyed this one on many levels - the attention to details, the effort put into landscape, the guy - all looks pretty well  together!
Respect also about  composing the music as well !

Hardware / Re: Expected 10gbe speed?
« on: 2020-06-09, 07:47:11 »
Hi there,

The Aquantia chip does the work but it is far from the optimal solution, as it tends to overheat, due to the passive cooling, which is not enough.
I personally ended playing so much with settings that eventually got lost inside all the variables, so with each change got different results.  Make sure You restart PC, after each change.
The option You mentioned is Turned On here, everywhere - have two Asus cards(aka Aquantia) and the main server has  integrated intel X552/X557-AT 10GBASE-T.
To maintain the speeds over the network what worked for me was to increase "Transmit Buffers" to the max supported number available and disable Jumbo Packets , everywhere.
Strangely, disabling  the TCP/IP v6 Internet Protocol  from the "Ethernet Porperties" inside win 10 helped a bit as well.

Guy whom found on Amazon, suggested having the following options activated/disbaled:

ARP off
Energy-Efficient Ethernet off
Flow control off
Jumbo Packets off
Large Send Offload (all 3) off
Maximum number of RSS Queues - 8 queues (only set to number of threads of your processor or lower as this puts more load on CPU)
NS Offload off (only applicable to some Aquantia chipsets)
Transmit Buffers 8184

In regards to the NVNe drives, can not suggest much. I am still using old-school high capacity SATA Hdd in raid10 here, as PC here does not support NVMe.
Do you have by chance the "Trim " option enabled  on any of the disks ( if "Samsung")?
Is any of the disks "Evo" by chance? Test it with a disk benchmarking program and then compare the results with the Network benchmarking program as a start.
Last thing which could think of - bit obvious but try checking if You have the disk plugged into  PCIe Gen 3.0 x4.

Good luck!

Couple of things to check:
- drivers and firmwares - updating them to latest and finding them from the "official" site not aways works. For instance despite my lan cards are branded as Asus, and Asus does have drivers, I am currently using the Aquantia ones, from another website.
- try with other cables as well, cat 6a or more. Have heard a lot of stories about bad cables which are claimed to sustain higher speed but deliver poor performance
- Try checking you switch and lan card settings. That's crucial. For instance had to manually adjust some settings in Asus XG-C100C to boost performance and have it somehow stable - Jumbo packet is disabled here  and boost in speed is around 50%.
- Check Your Belkin settings and play with some of them  if the switch is manageble or try looking up for any complaints about lower speeds on Belkin forums....

As a side story, a friend of mine who has access to bigger market, when on the 10gbe route, but with local NAS- Qnap.
After exchanging couple of devices - mostly lan cards, and proper drivers, he managed to sustain almost same speed on his 10gb network with fiber optic, regardless of having mixed software environment - win 7, win 10, linux, etc.

Good luck!

Just a quick follow up question:  You mention jumbo packets are disabled?  Normally I would think Jumbo is enabled and MTU is set to 9000 for 10gbe right?  Have you had better luck with it disabled?

Edit:  Right now I've had a massive jump in speed by disabling 'Recv Segment Coalescing (IPv4)' on my Aquantia chip which came with the Asus.  It went from looking like it was dropping packets like crazy to actually behaving well.  But now one computer sends at 10gbe and one sends at more or less 5gbe.  If you flip to the other computer and run the same benchmark then you get the mirror image (write is 10, read is 5...the other is the opposite).  So both are pretty fast, but one seems to be about half the speed it should be.  Wondering if there might be a system variable in play like encryption or something...as in, perhaps the explanation is Windows is setup differently rather than the NIC is behaving differently.  I've been moving cables around but am going to check that one more time.

Check extremetextures.
I am using these and totally love the quality.

Lovely work!

Really like the exterior project! Respect for the effort populating and coming up with landscape!

Uploaded scene via the provided link. Have not tested with Corona 6 latest builds.

It works fine here:
- Max 2020
- 16.04 V6 Corona daily
- TyFlow newest version (downloaded literally yesterday)

I rendered a few frames from the animation, no crashes.

Are You sure You are rendering the TYFlow, not the geometry generated . TYFlow has been disabled in rendering from object properties menu.
Tried once again with Corona V6 16.04 and latest TYFlow, but 3ds max 2018 - crashes persist.

Confirmed.
Fun fact: if you go to devel/experimental settings (https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/12000021288) and disable multithreaded parsing, it doesn't crash, but stops rendering before it begins. :)

(Internal ID=503163640)

Thanks for investigating this. Will have it mind. It is not that rendering motion blur out of TYFlow is of primary importance personally. Seeing this tool being adopted by more and more 3D artist  and trying to tackle specific things in my workflow with Corona , it is good to limit the amount of time spent on opening scenes at least. Hope You will find a solution alongside Tyson Ibelle. Looking forward to Corona 6. :)
