[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Grass, couple questions
« on: 2018-10-10, 15:10:04 »
Thanks, this help. And render is much, much faster, . Plane is 400X400 cm, grass is more or less real dimensions. Make couple variations.

[C4D] General Discussion / Grass, couple questions
« on: 2018-10-09, 13:02:42 »
I'm very happy with hair implementation in new release of Corona for C4D. For some time look on Max version, couple guys made very nice stuff.
I make couple tests, and it's good when you render hair - fur. But when I try grass, find some problems. Must use Corona hair material instead of standard Corona material. Also there is no option to Corona use color from Cinema hair material ( try texture and color for roots and tips ). I try to modify Corona hair material, get some result, this probably can be better with more tweaking.
Render time is long, I guess that hair material is to demanding. I notice that grass have some translucency or so. This is nice, but overkill for ordinary grass.
So one solution is to make different material for grass ( plants, leaves etc. ). In general, C4D users mostly do not do character work ( its shame, C4D hair system is very versatile ), instead there is many arhviz works. So, dedicated material for grass or possibility to use standard Corona material.

Anyway this is great step forward. Now Corona team have ground for further improvements.
One test, notice noise ( over 250 passes ), strange thing after some time noise level start to rise. Also use denoiser 0.6. Most weird are strips in grass blades? In some cases this can be nice, but look strange on common grass.
I would be very grateful for any advice - tips.

usually problem using hair in cinema 4d that you end up a grass that looks bit like carpet.

In reality grass is a bit like carpet :p Different length, size, orientation, density, color etc. Even on soccer fields you can see lot of diversity :)
Maxon do not touch hair long, long time, but cinema system is very capable and easy to use. Watch couple videos about Maya - Max.... heh, in C4D everything is much simpler.
Play with options in material settings, vary density, length, size, rotation, color. Also can lower gravity and play couple frames, just to get more natural look.
Anyway geometry always give better result, but you can combine @ BossCo grass with hair. Real geometry for grass close to camera and hair for distant.
Two quick examples, render with C4D native renderer. One more perfect, one more common ;)

2 year ago I make simple test scene in Corona, use same free model.... but on the end I render in Vray, same problems. But even in Vray this is not easy, I have "great time" :D trying to put textures in their place.

Couple times I make some stuff for Corona and always give up because some stupid things. In this picture I successfully put textures on car door and Coca Cola wending machine, use some tricks... do not remember, this is over year old, wait somewhere on my HD for better days for cinema users :)

[Max] I need help! / Re: Bottle
« on: 2016-07-06, 09:52:18 »
Method with double geometry is good.... but downside is higher render time and sometime some weirdness.
Depending of your scene.... complexity of model ( and how much Vodka you need :) ), maybe is better to make UV and apply texture, bottle is simple shape, cylinder . Method with double geometry I use for water drops, to drive bump/normal and different IOR for water.

[C4D] General Discussion / Stack materials, alpha....
« on: 2015-06-15, 02:46:26 »
For the second time trying to make a bigger scene in Corona. The first time I ran into a problem with the displacment, bump mapping, light....so delete scene and assign material from scratch in previous increment. Now I have problem with alpha. I left for the end  the model that has alpha in the materials. This model is not mine, so I had prior to converting to check all materials ( lumas in defuse slot and stuff like that ). I've tried various things, in the end I used a blend  materials, preview look good but on object can see only one material.
So no stack material, no usage of blend material, what is solution?

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Reflection V3 [SOLVED]
« on: 2015-06-15, 02:32:22 »
All mu friends work in Max, watch tons of tutorials for Max, so I'm familiar with them. When I first sat down to someone else's computer, I worked in Max, without much trouble .... ok. sometime ask for some shortcuts like alt + W :p
But all this has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. Many things are specific to C4D version, many features are missing or broken, even more sometime Max users come here and give  wrong advices. This leads to confusion, annoyance and unnecessary waste of time.

thanks for tip:)
it would be good that all these tips gathered together into one thread, its boring to read manual for Max, so many thing are diferent.

V3 bring some nice features..... bump and light are still toooo strong, but it has already become a trademark, and gradually getting used to it :D
Seriously, are there any plans for integration Cinema Hair?  It has wide application not only for hair, grass. With Corona scatter this be killer combo.

In my case H2N is just above Hair material in shader list. Although I must note that the V2 plugin gives strange results, I think more often than in V1.....

I hope that in future versions of Corona will be supported Hair render, in a similar way as in Vray, or Corona team maybe make Corona own scatter for C4D. Anyway it is necessary to be patient, I have no doubt that we will be rewarded with some nice solution.
Do not know how  works surface Spread, but mograf have some..... limitations. For example, when distribute clones on surface you need much more clones than is required or be visible, but they eat your resources. So you can with Hair make distribution for clones. In Hair menu choose add Hair guides and set  guides numbers to 1 and for min. spacing put value depending of grass patch size, then simply draw.  In generate tab chose spline, make Hair object editable, disable hair render. In cloner menu chose object mode, and put hair spline there. In that way have control how many clones have and his distribution.
I hope you understand my  Tarzan tongue :p

There is free plugin height to normal ( http://www.biomekk.com/index.php?page=2&cat=107&itm=13 ), much better than cinema normalizer, you have couple mods and more control..... this work in some situation.
In bump channel put H2N, in texture slot can put filter to make more adjustments. Normal map work better than gray scale bump texture.

General CG Discussion / Re: Arnold Renderer for C4D !???!
« on: 2015-05-17, 16:29:47 »
Ehhhh. I really do not understand what Arnold seeks in Corona forum?
It seems to me that most do not know what writes. Arnold and Corona have different purposes. Also, an example which showed @Han is wrong and misleading....  Arnold dont work like that, he have a problem in areas with little light, like this interior. So, Arnold is not one button solution just like many people think.... Hollywood did not dismiss their  lighting ninjas. After all, about it a lot can be read on the Internet.
I personally can  compare Corona renderer with Vray, Thea, AR, Modo, Octane and other who have similar purpose.  Corona has its own look and I like it.... unfortunately for now this quality is achieved in Max version. But that will change, I hope.

Its very nice when developer seeks an opinion from users, unfortunately this is not common practice. Corona has come a long way in a short time and there is more ahead, ( not to mention Maaac pleaseeee ). Desires are different, depending on the interests and needs of individuals, it is impossible to please everyone.
My modest wish is  Corona team take a breath, and deal with  polishing existing features like bump, lights values, mapping etc. instead of adding new at all costs.
I vote for: More texmaps (AO shader, Wire, Rayswitch, ...).... but wish all stuff, pronto, for yesterday :D

PS. whether somewhere exist explanations about new materials, Mix and Portal?
regards
