Possibly true...

Well it's 2020 and this bug is still ongoing :)

Thanks! I will try that. A lot of these materials were created by the scene converter from a previous physical renderer scene BTW.

I think it's in any scene with animated textures? Can't scrub without it crashing quite quickly - this is on a different scene to the one I sent (different geometry, lighting, but a very similar set of animated textures)

5
Thanks! Glad it's not just me :)

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. It's a bunch of different scenes based around the same assets used in different ways. There's some substance mats, quite a lot of animated textures. RAM used never goes much above 50%. I'm sending you a test file that crashes pretty consistently.

Hi there,

Corona on c4d seems very unstable when using interactive renderer.

Trying to use it on a job and it crashes more or less constantly. In particular enabling or disabling lights, or when scrubbing, but also just other times in general. Sometimes it crashes with a bugreport then hangs c4d (have attached latest one here) and sometimes just quits c4d.

Running c4d R20 on threadripper 1950x, win 10, 64gb ram, latest gfx drivers (rtx 2080ti) but it also dies on other pcs.

Indeed - I can get that far too. But as you can see, textures don't work, and the model is flipped horizontally.

You can't make proxies in c4d either (but that is a separate problem)

In the process of making those test scenes, I realised the proxy issue might actually be with 3ds max as well. If you load that proxy back into a blank, reset scene in max, materials/textures are also missing. It only works when you have the original material still loaded in the material editor. I will go and post the same thing to the max forum :) - but this is probably something you'll have to get together to work out? FYI am using one of the latest daily builds for 3ds max corona v3 (DailyBuild Aug 16 2018)

BTW, note also the proxy loads in c4d flipped on the X-axis.

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Proxies are almost completely broken
« on: 2018-09-04, 11:23:24 »
Using Version: B2 daily Aug 15 2018 (core 3 (DailyBuild Aug 15 2018))  C4d R18.057 Windows 10 64gb ram

Proxies created in 3ds max will import but have no textures (other people have mentioned this but it was supposed to be fixed in an earlier build?). Tried putting the textures in various locations to see if it would find them, no joy.

Proxies created in c4d using the "pick from scene" button fail with a "Loading failed due to memory error" message. This is just starting from a blank scene, creating any 3d object, converting to editable mesh first, and using pick from scene. It creates a cgeo file but that file cannot be loaded. Out of curiosity I tried loading that proxy back into max and it doesn't work in there either.

Am I correct in thinking this hasn't been fixed yet?

I know it's not as glamorous or fun as volume rendering, but any chance you could fix the bug in the RTT renderer that means you can't output animated sequences? At the moment it only outputs one frame and does not append a number to it, so it keeps getting overwritten. I'd like to think that must be an  easy enough fix :)

Which version are you using? I think this was already fixed...

Didn't work in the last version and I just tried it in the latest daily build. I've tried it with completely different scenes. Or maybe there's a workaround?

The problem with my hack is that it sometimes fails randomly with this message: "error in configuration file config-'c:\users\mike\appdata\local\autodesk\3dsmax\2017 - 64bit\ENU\plugcfg\corona\15532570.conf' correct/delete it and restart 3ds max"

So it would be great to get this bug fixed properly.

Thanks, yes I was talking about rendering the same map over time. Although UDIM support in corona would also be great :)
