[Max] I need help! / Re: Corona Light slows down Viewport
« on: 2022-09-20, 11:11:38 »
Hi George,
Thank you very much for bringing up the previous topic regarding this issue.
Intrigued by the other posts I just tried to reproduce exactly same lag in my fresh 3ds max scene, and indeed:
instancing multiple (I tried to instance the row of 10 lights, 15 times) it pretty much has frozen my Max.

This won't happen if same exercise is done with box or sphere geometry (subdivided to the level of sphere light helper).

It's a serious issue I believe, no wonder why some of our past night-time scenes became very hard to work with.
I always blamed Max Instancing performance but seems like it was actually just Corona issue.

Hope this will get fixed for Corona 9. Fingers crossed.

We will see what can be done about this, please stay posted. Thanks!

Hi everyone that's an interesting find, it looks like a bug but it also could be due a limitation, we'll see what can be done about it. Thanks!

I'm running the DB from September 6 and experiences way more crashes than normal.  They almost always occur when IR is running and I change a material or when assigning a material.  Everything freezes for about 30 seconds, and then the normal crash box pops up that says you can attempt save the scene but then it crashes even further (and doesn't let you save the scene) and I get a strange error about dotnetbrowser and a chromium crash.

Windows 10, Sept 6 build of Corona, Forest Pack, Max 2022 latest SP.

I'll try to get a dump file or create a duplicatable situation, but was just curious if anyone else is seeing similar behavior with any of the newer DB's.

Hi we've internally identified a similar issue, can you please clarify if you experience any backface artifacts/inconsistencies in viewport quality, also are you by any chance using "realistic materials with/without maps" on standard viewport quality?

Hi everyone, this is already reported ( and logged, please stay posted regarding any news on the issue.

Hi There, I am also having the same issues. 3ds max crashes when denoising or saving the rendered image occurs.

Is there any solution to this now?

Thanks! :)

Hi, is it possible to share a scene archive with us, if yes please refer to

I would like request to expose random seed parameter in clouds UI. Offset is good for animating cloud movement, but it kinda sucks for fast exploring of different clouds positions, since you need to drag the spinners a lot, or enter numeric values by hand to get substantially different clouds.

Thanks, reporting it for further consideration.

hi george,
I have this post reporting the same problem, with corona8 installed.

I see, thank you for clarifying, is it possible the share the scene with us to further investigate? Kindly, please submit a request here

have you identify the problem?

Hi the issue was fixed/addressed with the release of Corona version 8, the cause of the issue seem to stem from the use of Corona Physical glass, but this shouldn't be the case anymore.

Hi, we have this logged and although it seems to be a limitation for the moment it might be improved in some way in the future.

Thank you for clarifying, we are looking into it!

Hi and thank you for reporting this, there are two issues here. The first one is regarding smoothing group issues for the imported assets in Corona, the second one is an issue with proxies that are loaded in ram and under a specific action sequence it can trigger a mesh corruption (of sorts). Out of curiosity did you render the Corona proxy in Vray at some point?

It's easy to get caught and get annoyed by this behaviour, but when you think for a moment how displacement should act when it meets hard corners, it's not as easy to find a proper solution as one might think.

Well, know that I know, I prefer it like this knowing that the workaround is chamber or subdivide in the worst case.
Thanks for your support guys!

Although it depends on what exactly you are trying to apply the decal on, an alternative would be to break surface vertices, in a case where your object is a box "wall" rather than just a plane, it will treat each polygon as a flat plane (granted no flat displacement is applied on the wall).
