Needing some advice regarding my workstation.

I've had my current 3990x computer since they came out and it has performed great until recently.  It's a prebuild from PC Specialist, which isnt quite the build I wanted as I requested a Noctua fan cooler for the CPU, but was told that it wasnt compatible with the chip.  So ended up going with the Coolermaster MasterLiquid ML360 RGB TR4.  Every now and again it will just shut off without warning, losing work in the process.  I ignored it for awhile thinking it was just a glitch, but it has happening more frequently now.  I suspect it is overheating as temps were reaching 95degrees underload and around 75 degrees idle, i've since switched off PBO, which has reduced the temps a little, but still having occassions were the computer just turns off.

I'm looking to replace the cooler and having done some reasearch purchased the beQuiet silent loop 2.  However, having now received this I dont think its going to do the job as it doesnt cover the whole chip.  So looking to return it and replace it with something else.  I'm looking at one of the following options:

Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3
Icegaint ProSiphon Elite
Silverstone IceGem 360

The icegaint seems to be the best for cooling, but man that thing is ugly.  I was thinking of getting the Icegem as it covers the whole die and from what I've read on this forum from dfcorona seems to perform well.

Any thoughts, help or suggestions appreciated.

I had the same issue a while ago and it turned out it was my power supply, worth a look perhaps?

I had the same experience as Adam with the power supply in my Intel i9 13900k system about a year ago. I sent it back to PCSpecialist and they replaced it and all has been fine since.

You might find using the Node Material Editor a quicker way of setting up materials with Corona Bitmap. If you create a physical material and then create a Corona Bitmap shader and then copy that enough times for the number of textures you want to use. Then, connect the output node of each bitmap to the input node and then go into each Bitmap and select the texture you want for each one. Attached is a quick screenshot of what I mean above.

The added benefit of this is if you want to use the same texture file more than once in a material and you can connect one output to multiple inputs.

I don't know about when converting a material that it adds the Corona Bitmap for you, but when you create a new material, you do need to add the Corona Bitmap plugin for each channel you want to add a texture to. Corona will accept textures without the Corona Bitmap, but it won't read the texture quite the same and the benefits of the plugin won't be seen either. This has been talked about in other posts and requests for this to become an automatic feature when creating new corona materials.

Hi Handz,

Regarding Corona Bitmap, for each texture map you want to use within a material, your workflow would be:
e.g.
texture>plugins>corona>bitmap - then select the texture map you want to use
or
Glossiness>plugins>corona>bitmap - then select the texture map you want to use

Threadripper 3990X 2nd run was 2 minutes 9 seconds

6
4 minutes 46 seconds was on the Ryzen 9. I have just run it on the Threadripper 3990X and it took 2 minutes 4 seconds.

@MircoTosti Studio

I did a test with the Sky volume effect off (it is on in your scene) and my render time went down to 4 minutes 46 seconds, down from 11 minutes

8
Looks like the attached during rendering. A lot of the text is overlapping. It lines up when rendering is complete.

9
It is right now, come to think of it. I haven't looked before.

10
Ran again on a Threadripper 3990X 128GB Ram through Team Render and that took 1min 32 seconds

Tried the academy start up file and imported the same sofa from Cosmos, added a corona sky and sun and tried my best to match these to your render. I added my own concrete wall material and rendered to 1600 x 900 to 5% noise and it finished in 3 minutes 50 seconds.

My PC is a Ryzen 9 5900X with 64 GB on Windows 10, CInema 4D 2024.1.0 and Corona 11 RC3

12
Re-ran rendering having added Corona Bitmap to all texture images and time came down to 1min 53 seconds.

13
Finally got round to running a test render for your original scene. Total render time took 2min 40 seconds

My PC spec is: (running stock)
Intel i9 13900K
64GB DDR4 3200Mhz RAM
Windows 11
MOB TUF Gaming B660M Wifi 4
Cinema 4D 2024.0.2 running Corona Renderer 11 Daily build 6 Sept 2023

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Sun & Sky

Hi GazzaMataz

The light intensity settings for Corona are different to Cinema's own lighting system and you might find using the Corona camera more suited (if you aren't using it already!). You can then play around with the tone mapping within the Corona Camera tag to get the exposure you want. If you know about real world cameras, you can add the 'photographic exposure' by going to the Corona VFB and under tone mapping, add the photographic exposure option. Then play around with the shutter speed and F-Stop. It is said to best keep the sun and sky intensity at 1.

Hope this helps!

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Team Renderer With Corona
« on: 2023-09-22, 09:43:57 »
Hi GazzaMataz,

For Corona Render to work on a team render machine, you need to have the same Corona Render version installed as the Team Render server and a render node licence (each node needs its own licence). As far as I remember, you can't team render with Corona on a demo version.

I hope this helps.
