[Max] General Discussion / Re: Hardware
« on: 2012-10-24, 17:08:47 »
Beat this:

Lenovo Edge 15
i3 370m @ 2,4GHz
4GB RAM
intel HD graphics

or:

Core2Duo E8400 @ 3,0GHz
4GB RAM
But I haven't tried running corona on this pc yet.

As you said, you can do this with Particle Flow or max's "Scatter" compound object. In pflow you can set your container object to delete particles touching it to eliminate intersections. Probably you can also find a free script to do this for example on scriptspot.

Resetted xform, changed UVW parameters, added UVW Xform (not even sure what it does) and nothing happens, same blurry bitmap.

Actually it's inspiring if you are a lamp designer.

I know this is pretty obvious, but look what happens when you scale a spherical light:
Scaling rectangular lights is ok.

Not bad, but everything looks like plastic. I think something's wrong with reflection glossiness. I would also play with lights, it looks like very bright ambient light was used. And chamfered edges would help too.

Or you could just save your image to .hdr and do magic in photoshop.

Maybe it's because I'm working in centimeters?

I always do such stuff when testing renderers.

Can't wait for SSS or you could try lowering refraction glossiness in this material.

Yeah, I forgot to add info about the first render: I pressed RENDER in the morning and left home for the whole day. That's why render time is so long. I don't know how much time it would take to render this image noiseless but as you can see after 30 minutes of rendering it wasn't THAT noisy, which is good for a rendering with DOF, glossy reflections and no lights (only env light and windows). I think in such scenes on my low-end laptop Corona is about 4 times faster than v-ray. In v-ray I would probably have to leave my pc on for these 8 hours to maintain such result. :)

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / Re: Multilingual versions
« on: 2012-10-23, 14:26:23 »
In my opinion, translating graphics applications (2d or 3d) is a complete failure. Most words used in computer graphics can't be translated, or translating them wouldn't change anything as they are very specialised words. Other words would just change a bit, for example if someone for some reason tried to translate the word "render" to Polish, it would probably be "renderuj" which is completely pointless.

Of course there is point in making multilingual documentations/manuals/tutorials and I would be very happy to help with it (English -> Polish) as there is a HUGE Polish cg society and generally cg business in Poland.

On the other side, most tutorials or manuals consist of 90% images or videos and usually can be understood without much text.

And here is something DeadClown wanted to see: 30 minutes of rendering on a i3 laptop and still pretty much noise...
(actually forum compression reduced noise a bit)

Few of my previous posts disappeared (including autosave function in feature requests and this one, not fair!) so I re-upload my render.

Change "renderer" to progressive

or

in "Renderer: Bucket" tab change adaptive threshold to something lower.
