[Max] Feature Requests / Re: The most wanted feature?
« on: Yesterday at 17:11:10 »
It's pretty much never safe to switch if there is even the smidgeon of a possibility you will at any point want to go back to an older version of Corona. Of course you can install and run old and new versions alongside each other, so new projects can be in new Corona, and ongoing projects can remain in previous version Corona. This means one long ongoing project doesn't have to stop you taking advantage of new Corona coolness in your other projects :)

Right you are. Thank you.

Reset votes since new version was released and new ideas were added.
You can check the tentative road map for the next version here:

Just want to say that V8 feels like one of the best version updates the team has put out. Curvature map and decals alone have saved me hours every single week since I updated. Thanks!

Is it safe to switch in  the middle of long, loooonng projects? When I switched a couple of weeks ago, and then back to 7, there were issues with LUTs or something like that.

When will developers listen to users?

To some extend Corona war born because of listening to users :)

"GPU/Hybrid rendering": You have to understand that it is like buying a diesel locomotive and then crying for a solution to drive it by battery.

Good Luck

I never understood why that option was on this list in the first place. The official answer to that request was always that it isn't possible to develop (reasonably speaking). It's a complete redo of Corona.

General CG Discussion / Re: best mouse for 3ds MAX
« on: 2022-05-24, 16:20:33 »
Hi all.
Just wanted to let you know that 3D Connexion is selling a keyboard that comes with a mouse for free.

I bought the pack and am very happy with it so far. Both the keyboard and the mouse feel very nice.

The VFB will always show whatever background color or image is set for the scene, but those areas will also generate an alpha mask that gets saved with the image. Photoshop gets a bit weird about this and may load the PNG with the background visible, but the alpha is in there and can be extracted and applied, I don't remember exactly when it decides to get weirded out about it :)

A quick test with a cube shows that so long as Alpha channel is checked in the Max settings, it loaded just fine in PS with that already applied for me.

Ah ok. Thanks.

The PNG options from Max when saving specify whether to include the alpha or not. As a note, Photoshop may not show it on loading because Photoshop, but it is there.

Ok. So it wouldn't be possible to show it like this in the VFB?
See attached please.
I feel (really don't know), that if it's shown like this in the VFB, as opposed to a black background, it wouldn't bring black pixels around the image into photoshop. No?

you can add another LUT operator in VFB and load a false color LUT on top (bottom) of the stack any time.

Good Luck

Nice. Thanks Frood

I understand. But if Fusion let's you output/save the image with a transparent background, maybe corona can do it too.
In that case you can save as PNG and open it in PS with perfect transparency.

I'll try with fusion later. But yes. With photoshop this is the result:

See below please.
I have two tall boxes. One with physical material and the other with legacy, to discard reflections.
Rendered against an empty background.

I save the image as PNG with alpha included.

In photoshop I add a white background and I can see a darker grey contour.

Edit: I added the Max file

Here are my results from Photoshop (dark border) and Fusion (no border).

Thank you Maru. I just did this with Fusion. Now my question is, can Corona render in the VFB directly with the transparency instead of using a black background, like Fusion does? We would save directly into a PNG for example, saving us the fusion step.

This is already planned for the upcoming versions of CIE.

Is this done in Corona 7?

EDIT: I'm actually using CIE 6 because of the slowdown that CIE 7 had.

Is there a render element that shows two colors: one for pixels above RGB 1.0 and another for pixel from RGB 0 TO 0.99?

If not, it'd be very helpful to identify, with certain exposure and tone mapping, those areas that are burnt out.

Insane price. I wouldn't spend that much on one single computer, unless maybe the single core performance is several times better than nowadays.

[Max] Feature Requests / Re: Corona VFB Color Profile
« on: 2022-05-02, 15:00:53 »
The color profile that you see on the VFB should be the one for the monitor AFAIK. So in Photoshop you should assign the monitor's color profile and then convert to SRGB or whatever profile you want.

Hi devs,

It would be great if one could add a modifier to proxy objects. In particular I find it would be very helpful to be able to add the FFD 2x2x2 in order to have more control when changing the dimensions.
Currently (version 7) I can add said modifier but it doesn't do anything to the proxy object.

[Max] Daily Builds / Re: Tonemapping playground!
« on: 2022-04-20, 23:14:36 »
when i load a file made with corona7 and i open it with corona8 the lut present in tone mapping  in VFB not load the file LUT that was present in corona7

Having issues like that too. I uninstalled Corona 8 for now, but will report when I have more time.
Basically the renderings look different. Not sure why yet.
