[Max] General Discussion / Re: Corona Render 8 is Slower
« on: 2022-06-18, 17:56:58 »
I had the same impression. But after coming to this thread I tested both versions one next to the other with the same scene and it turned out that Corona 8 overall render time was shorter than Corona 7.
I even timed the parsing times for both and were identical.
I think it depends on what you have in your scene when you're rendering, like my above post.

There seems to be a major bug with Corona 8 and Forest Pro that makes Transforming Vertices & Parsing take forever, say 1 minute+ vs 5 seconds. This is using Forest Pro with Multi/Sub-Object node. Check to see if your scene contains that. If you remove the Multi/Sub-Object node you'll see how much faster Transforming Vertices & Parsing takes. Not sure if this is your issue but I hope there will be a fix for this because we had to convert to another renderer to render out our animation due to this big issue.

I will add them personally immediately if people finally stop saying "Merging with Chaos was a mistake" after 5 years :D
Lol, people still complain about that.  Any who, please don't hold them hostage, add them immediately.  These new features are amazing and what we have been waiting for.

64
The new V-Ray 6 features are incredible!  Is Corona getting these features? I've been asking for a geopattern like tool, looks like vray is getting it now.

I hope now that V8 is out and development on v9 will begin we can finally get Geopattern-like tool & Parallax Bump.  Both are features we can not live without anymore after using them with Fstorm.  Geopattern has replaced a lot of scattering and even displacement mapping objects, and Parallax bump has replaced bump and normal mapping and almost most cases all displacement mapping even in some closeups.  I hope Corona Dev's take a serious look at these two features now.

which engine? does it process input above 1.0 for .cube luts or just clips input at 1.0?
Hi, the Engine is Fstorm, not sure if it processes input above 1.0 for .cube luts or clips.

68
Nice LUT, I wanted to try it in my other render engine to see the results but it doesn't support "load it in log space". It only supports .Cube files, How can this LUT be used with that?

AMD Threadripper 5000WX Series is really disappointing, the same 64 cores. Looks to be just a slight clock increase. Meanwhile GPU's are increasing in speed tremendously.

To map textures onto Forest Pro grass I use "Planar From World XYZ", thought I use to do that in Corona bitmap, but I guess I'm remembering incorrectly. It's been a while. Thanks again.

71
Nothing is missing, it's always been like that. Actually no, before there were fewer mapping modes - a new ones are added as the time goes.

[..] Explicit [..]

Explicit is the default mode, it's always on, unless you're assigning bitmap to enviroment.
when I create a new Corona bitmap spherical is default with no option to go to explicit. How would I use planar from world when there is no option.? Other bitmaps have that option, and you could choose between texture, and environment.

By the way thanks for the help!

[Max] General Discussion / Corona Bitmap Mapping Missing?
« on: 2022-02-12, 17:01:28 »
Hi,

I've been away from corona for a while and just came back and installed version 7.  This might be a stupid question, but Corona Bitmap seems to be missing the mapping options for Texture, Explicit, Vertex, Planar from object, Planar from World?  Was it moved? I attached a screen shot.

73
I think the best way is the way VRay and FStorm do it, there Bitmap node has a "source transform" input. You then can attach a UVWRandomizer to one or all bitmap nodes and control it all from one node.  There are many other benefits to this also.

74
That doesn't sound good, nope. Can you guys please try describing what's happening a bit more in detail please? Is it just 3ds Max that gets sluggish, is it the mouse cursor as well, is it just the rendering performance or is the whole system (Windows included) just a lot slower?
Well, it's Max I guess.  With IPR even if you try to change material settings it seems to be so slow.  I don't know why freeing up more cores in the system settings doesn't help.

Hello folks

My current system specs are as follows

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Pro WS WRX80E-SAGE SE WIFI
Corsair CMH128GX4M4E3200C16 x 4(32GB EACH)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090
Sabrent Rocket 4.0 Plus (RKT4P1.21EDA92318183) (On NVMe Card)
EVGA 1600W PSU

I'm currently having an issue with interactive rendering on 3dsmax 2022 with corona 7.1

Its normally fast with normal rendering however with interactive rendering, the pc becomes a pentium 4 in performance

Please assist

Never had these issues with my intel i9 9960x
I have the same issue running with same software. Almost cannot do anything with IPR running.  I even excluded half my processors under corona system settings.
