So I'm using Bake To Texture a lot lately, and I've just discovered a limitation on the scatter edge trimming;

I know this is a slightly odd use case, but let's say I have some grass scattered on a landscape plane with edge trimming selected, it all works fine.

But when I use bake to texture on a flat 100% transparent surface hovering above the landscape the edge trimming isn't applied and I can now see the 'rough' edges.

Any workarounds you can think of to force the trimming? Thanks


You can probably ignore this report. On closer inspection, multiple things seemed to have been going wrong to cause such an issue for me.

Sorry for the vague description, but I swear that I recently saw a cool (built-in?) tool for 3dsmax - maybe it was a plugin?

Essentially you can select a mesh/poly object and apply it to another polyface. I don't think it was 'conform' modifier, per se, but more simplistic.

So, it might make modelling a tower with lots of repetitive window frames easier. You model the basic form and then apply the windows to the selected faces.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Going mad trying to find it.

But I have to say it's not very good at maxscript.

Does anyone have good tips on how best to or which service is best suited for AI writing of maxscript code?

Porting and API / Corona Image Editor alternative?

My understanding is that only users with Licences can use CIE?

Even if I'm incorrect, for someone to use a CXR file (in it's full capacity; light mix for example) it still requires non-corona users to install CIE, right?

I'm wondering if anyone has built either a web-app or simple CIE-light app that can allow a client of mine to play with my rendered light-mix?

If not, how difficult - with intermediate skills - do you think it'd be for me to build a web app to allow for light-mix capabilities similar to that in CIE?

This is 3dsmax related, not Corona. So off-topic, I know, but I'm certain this is a new 'bug'....I'm wondering if anyone knows why this is happening to me for the past few months?

I try to select an object and it selects the bigger, more simple object behind. Every damn time.

In the video below I'm demonstrating that I want to select the sofa (which has many more edges) but the BASE object (behind/underneath the sofa) is constantly selected - which is unintended, of course.

It's extremely frustrating. What have I done to cause this?

Any help MUCH appreciated! :)

Not sure if this has been reported yet or not, but see the attached image. I get this weird discoloration after denoise happens on my render. The whole scene has a basic cube with Corona Volumetric Material applied, if I hide this box, the error disappears.

Never seen this until recently. Additional info also supplied. (I know, I've got kinda crazy camera tone mapping settings applied - it's for an unusual project!)

General CG Discussion / 3dsmax - add a note to an object?

I'm wondering if any of you smart folk out there know a good way to add some sort of note or helper to an object?

Ideally, it should be a little keyword, or arrow, or symbol that is always 'attached' to a mesh. I don't want it to be grouped, as this gets messy quickly, and I don't want to link it to the object, as that's a separate object entirely and won't copy across when I duplicate said main object.

I guess in an ideal world it would be some splines that are a separate element within the object, but as far as I know, it isn't possible to have curves/splines within a mesh or poly object.

Any tips out there? I'm modelling a big apartment building with a set of standard window sizes and want them to be labelled (for my own internal 3dsmax use only - so it doesnt have to be pretty).

In 3dsmax...

I can do ctrl + i on an edit poly modifier to invert the selection, but I can't do the same when in edit mesh mode. Why?

It seems I can't set this hotkey to the edit mesh either. Why?

Any help much appreciated :)

Just updated to 2025.1 - I vaguely remember reading somewhere something about coronabitmap not working with this version? Am I correct?

I can't open the file load dialogue from corona bitmap node settings in SME.

I guess this is a known bug?

Does this warning on the file load bother anyone else?

I really don't care about these missing files, and they're usual false positives anyway seeing as it doesn't like loading Corona pre-set materials for some reason.

Does anyone know of a friendly + easy way to globally disable this warning on the load?\

[Max] I need help! / Crash on SME load

I'm currently experiencing a very, very, annoying problem. It seems to affect almost all scenes, on all projects at the moment and it's killing me.

It's not necessarily Corona related (I actually suspect Vray)

I load a file. I open Slate Material Editor and then an instant crash.

I re-open the scene, open SME and almost every time, it opens fine.

However, this problem has recently evolved. Now I open a scene, load SME and it doesn't open, the whole program just completely freezes. Nothing.

I have NO idea what's causing it, and no idea how to stop it.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

I'm on Corona 13 Daily July 30 , Max 2024.1, Windows 10.

One note; When this happens I check Task Manager and 3ds Max has has multiple instances of 'Microsoft Edge WebView 2' open. What is this? Is it possibly related?

[Max] Daily Builds / PNG Library Internal Error

Hi,

I'm getting this error when trying to save a second PNG beauty pass. (see attached error)

It's being managed by Pulze SM, so not sure if it's a fault of that plug-in or not though... (I have it set up to save as a JPEG but also save out another pass as PNG)

The PNG file fails to save, obviously but the JPG saves fine.

I'm using latest daily

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? And how to fix it?

Some frames render with either wrong or off-color bloom+glare.

Often I'll render an animation with visible corona lights and this flickering will happen on *some* lights.

Corona 12 daily Jan 29. Max 2024.1

This has plagued me for quite a while, so I don't think it's specific to this version.

[Max] Bug Reporting / Cosmos material import erorr

Hi,

Just a small error. If I import "Wall Paint Fine Grain 01 White 100cm" the textures do not seem to come with it. 3dsmax + windows 10.

It clearly has textures in the preview... so not sure what's going on. Other white wall plaster materials import fine.
