General CG Discussion / Re: Animating trees and plants
« on: 2020-11-23, 09:51:21 »
Yes, you can use the above method I mentioned for animating trees in your collection.

Growfx is quite cheap at $350, for what you get its a bargain in my opinion. Maxtree.org use it for all their libraries (and one of the best for plants IMO) so if you are buying their packs of trees you can get the bundle with growfx included for quick animations.
Agreed GrowFX being a bargain. That´s what we have done in the past- buying Maxtree plants and animated them using GrowFX. Although it is a relatively simple process, it is still pretty timeconsuming.

A project we finished this summer. Went for the mood we get here in Estonia in autumn quite often, sun shining with most of the sky building storm clouds.
We used TyFlow and Megascans to build the stone wall. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DNRf7jzqAhyr2p9TCHjQs_meBb5mNJRY/view?usp=sharing

Looking great and very good to see an improvement over the usual 2mx2m size.

(just as a note, did you know you can now install more than one version of Corona, which means you can install the daily, use that when you want, but still revert to the last official full Corona 5 release? https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000577837-how-to-run-different-versions-of-corona-renderer-at-the-same-time-corona-5-and-older- )
Oh, I didn´t know this, thanks for the tip, it´s very useful.

Thanks, guys!

Yeah, I´ve been keeping an eye on a new sun+sky thread, but I think I won't try daily version this time. Definitely should come back to it when the new version releases.

Hello! I´m sharing a new project inspired by Estonian bogs. First few days of work on this was done when Cabins 2018 challenge was started :D - it was buried in the graveyard of unfinished projects for a while. Itoo Forest ate up all my 128gb RAM and this made a project somewhat challenging, despite this, it was very nice to point the camera anywhere in a quite large-scale area, throw whatever lighting on it and still get kind of ok image out of it.
Again, much more images on Behance

Hey! We finally have a green light from a client to show a project from 2 years ago. Managed to render some close-ups, too :) A lot more from this project is on Behance
Thanks for watching!

We created full CGI environments to showcase Extery´s versatile urban bench system JADA. This project sparked a somewhat lost love for Megascans again. We are not active subscribers atm as we have a lot of unused points still available, fortunately, most of Bridge features [excluding export:(] work and it is still usable. A new Mixer is a lot improved from the last time we tried it. Mixing with noise and/or alpha maps are helping to solve the main problem with MS - it´s quite easy to mix different 2x2m maps into a larger covering texture. Unfortunately, 8K maps failed to export.

Hello!

Instead of creating a new topic every time we want to share something I will post everything here in one thread from now on. Feel free to comment or ask about anything.

Hello!
I´ve been testing a new Megascans Bridge and Mixer a little bit. This is my first experimentation (one image) with a new Corona Caustics. Had some problems regarding the scale of the scene, haven´t followed up if it´s sorted out now. Anyway, feeling pumped about this improved feature:) Also, modelled a few Salvatori pieces, which I should prepare to share. Having fun all around!
There are a few more images on https://www.behance.net/AndresSaarnak
Thanks!

[Max] Daily Builds / Re: Caustics playground!

Loving it- really adds another level to the game. I bet we are going to see a lot of images with extra photoshop boosted caustics element for some time now :D
I think I´ve found a limitation. I´m trying to use caustics in a pool. Everything works well until I unhide landscape which covers a very large area (few kilometres). It then won´t render caustics at all.

Very nice, did the corona scatter at this scale kill your system or are you using texturing for the background fields?
It´s all rendered. I used different forest objects for fore-, mid and background, it was easier to manage this way. It was fine with my 64gb ram, although I didn´t optimize much. I made wheat myself with Growfx and it was too tempting to make a lot of different objects just by clicking new seed number. I made 20+ different wheat objects which all are about 200K polys. I optimized background objects down to about 50K polys. I think it would have been totally fine with maybe 2-4 usual wheats, 2 bended wheats for the edge of the path and 2 harvested wheats. There´s only under 7M items in forest objects actually.

But when you resize the window with the picture, somewhere in the middle-left, you get moire effect because the lines are a little too straight. I don't think you would get moire from natural lines of wheat.
Wheat is planted in quite straight distinct lines actually, but moire effect happens in my image because I intentionally made my background wheat forest more sparse to make lines visible. In the real world, these lines would be all mixed together this far.
