[C4D] General Discussion / Help Getting Realistic Results
« on: 2018-09-14, 18:25:29 »
As some of you may know, I use C4D and Corona for automotive renders and animation. One area I've always had trouble getting realistic results is the red and yellow plastic lights around the car. I have had to resort to using images of the actual lights with some reflection and sticking them on the outer geometry. In most cases, this works just fine, but since Corona is so good and fast at rendering this sort of thing, I want to get realistic transparency, reflections and refraction in 3D. I'm attaching just the rear light assembly of the current model I'm setting up. Does anyone want to try and get this to render in a realistic manner and share the file for the community to learn from?

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Render Region and Team Render
« on: 2018-08-22, 19:11:03 »
I couldn't find this posted anywhere, so I'll do it here. If this is a known issue then by all means delete this post. This issue if very repeatable.

So a friend of mine was working on a somewhat complex scene and wanted to fix a strange result on one side of the animation. This scene does not use Denoising, only many render passes. To speed up a re-render by a significant amount of time, he tried to use the Render Region option. Everything worked as planned until TeamRender was introduced. As you can in this sequence of images, the Team Render result is useless. The only thing that is close to correct is the overall lighting in the scene. I tried with an HDRI lighting the scene, with a Corona Sky and with a Corona Sun. Same issues.

Again, I haven't seen where this is already mentioned here or on the roadmap page. Sorry if this is old news.

Cinema 4D r19.053

I tried Team Render with the Beta 1 RC Aug 6 and have strange rendering issues. The scene in question is not using the Denoiser by the way. If this animation is launched using Team Render on the iMac and using a Mac Pro Trashcan and a Windows 10 client in the mix, a couple things happen. The iMac will render as expected, the Mac Pro will render it, but the lighting is way off. I'm not talking about flickering, but a totally different look. Tomorrow, I'll post the two versions. The Windows box just never starts.

As recently as two weeks ago, I've used this same setup except the Mac Pro was the master. Things we've tried: reinstall plain Beta 1, different frame ranges, number of passes, launching from Mac Pro, launching from Windows 10 server. I even tried just hitting render on the Windows Box (no Team Render) and it never started so that PC might have a different issue than TR. Tomorrow, I'm going to zap C4D and Corona from the Windows box and reinstall everything. This is my fastest renderer so I hope this works.

The only way we got this to render is to render different frame ranges on each Mac. Anyone else?

I've got most of this down, but there are certain channels that seem better suited for a nodal material system. Since there is still time for Corona to have nodes, what is the best channels to use all of the images that come with PBR sets? Below is an example of a set I downloaded. Thanks.

Tiles 3_Alb.jpg  —  Diffuse?
Tiles 3_AO.jpg  —  Not Sure
Tiles 3_Dif.jpg  —  Diffuse?
Tiles 3_Dis.jpg  — Displacement Channel
Tiles 3_Nor.jpg — Bump channel with Corona Normal
Tiles 3_Ref.jpg  —  Reflection channel
Tiles 3_Rou.jpg  —  Reflection channel?

I have a scene that I need motion blur. This scene also used Cloners. Is there a known issue with motion blur and cloners? Before I post details, I want to make sure it's pointing out bugs in the daily build, or something bigger.

Also, is the stable B2 still available so I can compare the two?

[C4D] General Discussion / Super Fast Preview Render Mode?
« on: 2018-07-19, 18:45:55 »
Is there a fast preview render mode for Corona like the Software without textures (clay) option I can do in Standard C4D?

I'm a little confused about the Sky and Sun in Corona. I'm making an outdoor scene and want to use an HDRI for reflections at least. Should I just use the Sky with a Light Material/HDRI alone or is there a time to also use the Sun object? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks.

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Problem with Materials Stacking
« on: 2018-06-15, 22:25:15 »
OK so I think this may be a bug. The image should explain fairly well I think, but if there is an object that has a material from it's parent, then you either add a second material to the Child object and, in this case, use the C1 command so it's only on the cap, it breaks the parent material. I have to add it again on the child object beneath the other. This is also the case with a mesh object and a Selection Tag.

I have used this free material https://www.corona-materials.de/en/material-library/car-paint/advanced-car-paint-xpr/235, which is a very nice car paint material with flakes and an optional cloth preview and created 15 real-world Honda car paint colors. They are named using Honda's actual paint names. These materials do not include any imperfections such as bumps, scratches, fingerprints, etc., but you can easily add them. These paints are set up using layers and masks for each layer. Very effective.

Later I want to compile an automotive pack with rubber, chrome, glass, etc. I'm sure when Corona ships, we'll see packs like this using the future node system, but until then these may help someone out there. i know I've taken advice and files before, so here is at least one back. Enjoy.

Can Corona handle this feature yet? I can't seem to get it to work.

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Crashing A Lot when IR Is Open
« on: 2018-06-01, 00:33:08 »
I'm getting a lot of crashes in Beta1 and Beta2 daily May 30 2018 (core 2 DailyBuild May 30 2018) if I have the IR open. It works generally, but if I start scaling something, moving something or adjusting parameters of an object, boom. Crash. I've attached the crash report, but it seems to point to the Embree engine as the "trigger." How is Corona and Embree linked at all?

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Crash When Changing Light Settings
« on: 2018-05-22, 18:08:51 »
Not sure that this is a bug. Could very well be a random crash, but I'm attaching the crash report which has all the software and hardware info you would need.

I have a Corona Light in a Mograph Cloner set to a Grid. Only a few clones, but when I was adjusting the light settings, C4D crashed. I also had the IR window while I'm adjusting the light. I'd say most of my crashes happen when the IR window is open. Interestingly, C4D didn't not give me the usual window saying it had crashed and a message saying the scene was being saved in the crash folder. C4D just blinked out and the crash report I got from the Apple OS crash message.

[C4D] General Discussion / Outdoor Scene Questions
« on: 2018-05-18, 23:53:38 »
This is the same scene from my shadow catcher post, but Now I have different questions so here's a new thread. As you can see in this image, I have added all the cars on the left. The background image is from Google Street View (Street View Download 360 app). Just find a location and it gives you an equirectangular image. Good resolution too, 11835 x 6656, RGB (8 Bit). One thing is the background/shadow catcher image is very soft compared to the actual image file I'm using. Why is this?

The Honda CR-V's passenger door (middle vehicle) is supposed to be white. After much trial and error, I cannot get that material to look white and reflective. It's based on the blue material, but white. In this image, I have applied a chrome material to the rest of the car, as well as, the sphere on the road. The chrome material's Reflection tab has 999 in the Fresnel IOR and 1 in the Glossiness. I figured this extreme would surely give me a mirror look. Nope. Why am I getting that look even with chrome? There are no Post settings turned on. I even cooled the Corona Sun down to 5500k.

Another issue is the extreme hotspots on the front of the cars. No amount of passes or denoising smoothes this areas out. How can I fix these areas? If need be, I can simplify this scene and upload it, but right now its too large to post.

Thanks for any tips.

[C4D] General Discussion / Motion Blur Question
« on: 2018-05-17, 23:21:29 »
I'm running Beta1 on a Mac r19. I see Corona has Camera and Object motion blur and it renders fine. In this scene, there is a car rolling along a road. There are a few cameras and they follow the car as it passes by. Since the camera is tracking the car, the car itself should be in focus, but the background and the wheels should have some blur.

Is there any way to apply a motion blur to certain objects for effect? In previous versions of C4D, you could apply motion blur tags on only the objects you needed to blur.

OK so in my quest to render convincing cars that I can comp into images and footage, I'm having an odd issue. Maybe I'm missing something. My Sky material and Shadow Catcher material are not automatically lining up in my renders. In the attached image, you can see where I tried to line them up right above the dark green car. The images are also backward, but the actual image is not. The background also renders a lot softer that the actual image is. The other thing down the line would be to do the actual compositing in AE and blend them together better there. Can the Shadow Catcher, at this stage or in the future, export a shadow pass separately?

Yes, I have watched the few videos covering this with C4D, but it's very simple and I'm following the steps. Any advice and getting better at this is appreciated.
