Hi all,

I just wanted to say that I'm very pleased with the new version 8.
So far I found many time saving features and improvements. From being able to use corona scatter instead of forest pack, to decals and the amazing slicer material. And it remains super stable!

This is a known artifact related to our adaptive environment sampler. Generally, those squares should disappear rather quickly (after a few passes in IR), they should never appear in production rendering, and they should not lead to any problems.
Can you please confirm that this is an issue to you only because you find it visually distracting?

Correct. I find it visually distracting and that it's hard to evaluate changes in real time when I have those squares there. I had IR limit to 5 passes. Increasing that makes it better.
As a feature request, it would be great if this didn't happen. We tend to work fast and 5 passes would be enough for us to evaluate changes.

Is that with all PNGs? I think there's something up with just this one image, as we'd have heard a lot of reports if something was wrong with PNGs in general. Can you send that one file over? Does everything work fine with other PNGs? What happens on rendering?

It's not happening anymore. Weird. I think it was that file only. I should've checked with others. sorry.

On rendering it was showing what was rendered on the material editor.
I'm sending the PNG attached in case you want to test it.

Hi all.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but it seems like PNG files are not loading well?
No problem with JPEG or TIFF.

Or those presets are built in and there's no way to add my own?

I had the same impression. But after coming to this thread I tested both versions one next to the other with the same scene and it turned out that Corona 8 overall render time was shorter than Corona 7.
I even timed the parsing times for both and were identical.

It's pretty much never safe to switch if there is even the smidgeon of a possibility you will at any point want to go back to an older version of Corona. Of course you can install and run old and new versions alongside each other, so new projects can be in new Corona, and ongoing projects can remain in previous version Corona. This means one long ongoing project doesn't have to stop you taking advantage of new Corona coolness in your other projects :)

Just want to say that V8 feels like one of the best version updates the team has put out. Curvature map and decals alone have saved me hours every single week since I updated. Thanks!

Is it safe to switch in  the middle of long, loooonng projects? When I switched a couple of weeks ago, and then back to 7, there were issues with LUTs or something like that.

To some extend Corona war born because of listening to users :)

"GPU/Hybrid rendering": You have to understand that it is like buying a diesel locomotive and then crying for a solution to drive it by battery.

I never understood why that option was on this list in the first place. The official answer to that request was always that it isn't possible to develop (reasonably speaking). It's a complete redo of Corona.

The VFB will always show whatever background color or image is set for the scene, but those areas will also generate an alpha mask that gets saved with the image. Photoshop gets a bit weird about this and may load the PNG with the background visible, but the alpha is in there and can be extracted and applied, I don't remember exactly when it decides to get weirded out about it :)

A quick test with a cube shows that so long as Alpha channel is checked in the Max settings, it loaded just fine in PS with that already applied for me.

The PNG options from Max when saving specify whether to include the alpha or not. As a note, Photoshop may not show it on loading because Photoshop, but it is there.

Ok. So it wouldn't be possible to show it like this in the VFB?

I feel (really don't know), that if it's shown like this in the VFB, as opposed to a black background, it wouldn't bring black pixels around the image into photoshop. No?

you can add another LUT operator in VFB and load a false color LUT on top (bottom) of the stack any time.
