[Max] Daily Builds / Corona Curvature Map playground!
« on: Yesterday at 14:13:18 »
We have the long-awaited Corona Curvature Map in our newest daily build!
You can check the full changelog and grab the installer here:

This is an early implementation and it may still change based on your feedback, so please let us know what you think about it, what is great, and what isn't.
We are also very interested in the differences you notice between the Corona AO and Curvature, and when exactly you would choose to use which.

Basic usage:
Create a new Corona Curvature Map in the material editor.
Plug it into any material property you wish, or use it as a mask to mix various properties/materials.

An example where AO and Curvature produce a similar result:

Hi, please always report any technical issues at

Have you tried all the solutions from this article?

If so, I can only recommend that last one - reinstalling Windows. This sounds like an overkill, but it already helped a few users with this issue. We are not sure what is causing this, but it seems to be some kind of missing Windows component.

Hi, can you please explain what exactly you are doing here? Are you using the 3ds Max-native "viewport selection" option, or the Corona one? If you are not sure, can you please share a screenshot showing where exactly you are enabling this option?
Also, are you composing the final image with the black frame in Photoshop or some other 3rd editor, or are you doing all of this inside 3ds Max using the Corona VFB?
The more information you can provide about what exactly you are doing and what is happening, the better.

Thank you in advance for the details.

Is someone else facing this problem after turning off cast shadow of sheer curtain as shown in attached image.

i am using 3ds max 2022.3 & latest DB

thanks :)

This is an old bug existing since many versions back, it is not related to Corona 8.
You can find it here under "black highlights" -

Can you see if the same thing happens if you disable the UHD Cache as the secondary solver in the Performance tab? (just set both the primary and secondary solver to Path Tracing)

Are you able to share the problematic scene with us, before the issue was fixed?
If so, please use this uploader and let me know what's the file name:

- the sexy beast

We recently had a similar case, and I also experienced it in my tests. The solution may be activating 3ds Max, or at least logging in with your account. One way to simplify this (and it worked in my case) would be to install the Autodesk Desktop App and sign in in it.

You can also make sure that FP / RC do not have any camera-dependence enabled (Forest has a "limit to camera view" option that hides instances which are outside of camera view). This can easily create flickering in animations, or at least I think so.

Sorry, but I don't really understand this request. What specific property of the hair material would you like to make more or less saturated?
In your case, were you using a solid color, a Corona Color plugged into some slot, or a bitmap? Why not just use the Corona Color Correct node?
I think sharing some more information and screenshots of what exactly you were doing would greatly help here.

What's your RAM usage when this happens?

Hi, what kind of lighting are you using? Is it a Corona Sun, an HDRI, or something else?

My first thought is some glitch related to the adaptive light solver. You can disable it using a checkbox at the top of Render Setup > Performance and render a few frames to see if the issue persists.

If that doesn't help, it could also be the adaptive environment sampler. You can disable it by going to the "Development/experimental stuff" rollout (see: and then changing the "Enviro sampler" from "Adaptive sampler" to "NormalDep Compensated".

In any case, we are interested in inspecting your scene to find out what is going on. You can upload it here and share your filename here.

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Corona DR + deadline problem
« on: 2022-01-10, 14:03:29 »
We are in touch with Deadline about this issue. Unfortunately, it seems this is currently a limitation when using Deadline+Corona, but we are discussing some more topics and hopefully some improvement / workaround will be possible here. We don't have any solution right now.

Also the name of the AI in William Gibson's "Neuromancer" and related cyberpunk series :)
Ooww this book is 4th in my own wishlist to read))
But actually this word I remember more from The Long Dark game survival mode. TBH it's one of things that inspired me in visual way)

I actually played the game for a very long time and liked it a lot. I wish graphics in The Long Dark looked like this! :D
