I'm getting an error when installing v9 daily build on Mac. "Failed to initialize material library download"

Is there a manual way to install the latest library?

Just got a notice from people at The Pixel Lab and they finally are offering Corona materials in addition to their nice Redshift and Octane stuff. $69 for 100 materials. Always high-quality products from those guys.

I'm running MacOS 12.1 Monterey and Corona v8.

I know for years, Corona has had bugs with Mograph and Motion Blur. I figured I'd try out a little motion blur again, but using Scatter.

In this image, the car is animated in a straight line enough to get the blur. The camera is a child of the car so obviously moves right along with it.

Looks like the Scattered clones are blurred as they should be. As well as the road object. Where I have a question is the car. I set the blur to be Enable Camera. In my photographer head, this should blur everything EXCEPT the car since the car is "still" relative to the camera, but as you can see, the car is also blurred. Am I thinking about this wrong as far as Corona goes? Am I missing something?

I was just watching the greatly detailed tutorial with a big section on Scatter over on the YouTube channel. Very nice. I have a couple questions.

One thing I use Mograph Cloners for is cloning cars to fill parking lots. There is a Grid setting in the Cloner that makes this very easy. What's the best way to achieve this in the current version of Scatter? Would I have to create grid of splines?

I guess a follow-up is does Scatter always need an object to scatter on? With Mograph, I can make a large grid (x,y and Z), add a Random Effector and create an organic area of Clones.

Is Scatter a good tool for very organized clones I guess is my big question?

[C4D] Daily Builds / Chaos Browser Crashes Often

I can't replicate an exact step-by-step to cause this crash, but the one thing that seems to be the culprit is using the Search feature. Sometimes, like I just tested, with a brand new scene I brought up the browser and typed in Cars. Boom Instant crash to the desktop with no crash report. Sometimes, I can browse, download and import objects. I might be able to search a couple of times, then boom. The next search will crash to the desktop. This behavior has been there for me ever since the Cosmos Browser was introduced, regardless of the build version.

Is there any way to enable a setting to record the crash?

So I've come to rely on C4D's Mograph Cloners, mainly for duplicating rows of cars in a line, grid or along a path. So simple to add randomness and amazing Effectors.

I know Scatter will be far better for grass, trees, rocks and other things I'm not aware of yet. Should I switch to Scatter to clone my cars? Is it more efficient and easier on the viewport? No effector FX?

Also, right now I usually have a hidden folder in my scene with let's say 4 different car models and a copy of each one in several colors. I'll make an Instance of each one and drag those into the Cloners. Easier to select and move around. As long as they are all set to Instance and not Render Instance or Multi-Instance since those options give me problems with Corona. Any advantage to using Corona Proxy instead?

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Crash With Chaos Cosmos

I was trying out the new Scatter feature and had a small mountain with a tree from C4D's assets browser and 100 copies For some reason, the C4D material on the leaves wasn't rendering which bugged me, even though this was a Scatter test. I thought, let me grab a tree from Cosmos. As soon as I clicked on a tree, it shot me to a web browser, not a page, just brought Firefox to the front and C4D crashed in the background. No file was generated. I've attached the crash report the Finder brought up in case that helps at all.

I'm wondering if every time I use C4D and Corona, I'll have to go to Chaos and log in. Seems like a pain. What if I love internet for some reason? I'm screwed? If I do lose internet, what happens to the assets I previously downloaded?

I'm trying to get good with the new Physical material system and I'm liking it. One question I have is how would I go about adding a car paint flake effect using this system? Ironically, the material library's car paint examples are using legacy materials and layers. Can the flakes be done withing one Physical material?

I'm very happy with v8's stability so far. In the past, I wasn't able to keep the Interactive Renderer or the Interactive Viewport running for more than a couple minutes before a crash. Now with v8, I have worked for hours without a crash. So much better. This behavior is with C4D r20 and r25.

So I wanted to play around with some volume files so I found several free VDB files on the web. Any time I tried to load a sequence, i.e. an explosion or fire, it just says "Size: empty" and nothing loads at al. From what I've read I just need to select the first file of the sequence, but nothing worked. I tried to load one of the frames and had the same error.

The solution was to delete the first first frame that was significantly smaller than the rest. I assumed this file had the "instructions" to load the rest. After I deleted this file or moved it out of the folder, the VDB sequence loaded as expected.

Hope this helps anyone else stuck on this.

[C4D] I need help! / Get Rid of Fireflies in Animation

I love Corona, but damn if I can't avoid fireflies to save my life. I will upload a scene after I post this. As you can see in this clip, I have fireflies all over the place. I will admit, on the first clip with all the trucks, I had some old chrome materials that were set to 999 IOR reflection. I fixed all of them and you can see in the single truck test, I still have fireflies in many other areas that have much less reflection. I'm assuming reflection is the main cause, but I'm only guessing. The full truck shot is using a simple Physical Sky with basic settings.

The full shot used 15 passes with High Quality Denoising. I also tried Noise Level limit of 5, 4 and 3 with either no change or even more fireflies. Clearly, adding more passes isn't the solution as far as I can tell. The step below the door of the truck is really bad. Upon closer inspection, I'm guessing the source of the fireflies there is the pill-shaped bumps, which are actual meshes and not Displacement.

I'm open to all suggestions.

Just found out about this site giving away a free pack of 90 (think) models including Max with Corona materials. I haven't opened it yet, but they look very nice. Just have to register, no surprise there.

Edit: Turns out only the Max files come with Corona materials, but all the pieces are there to build them yourself and see how close the converter gets. They are fairly low resolution textures, but the price is right.

So the latest build of v8 installs an M1-native Corona. If I'm running a r20 Team Render client via Rosetta2, is the render engine still running in M1 native mode and theoretically faster?

I'm curious. Is the setting for Noise Level a smart system where it applies more light rays or passes to certain noisy areas, it is it a blanket system? So if the noise level renders with 25 passes, is it the same as me manually setting the passes to 25? Just curious.
