[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: Possible Bug
« on: 2023-03-18, 19:26:40 »
Just wanted to add something new I just discovered on this topic. I sent a job to the Render Queue which showed an error and listed a lot of missing assets the queue, even though they are all linked properly.

I just discovered that if you go in the Project Assets Inspector, select all your assets and hit the Consolidate Assets option, C4D will collect everything and save just the assets to a new folder. No sign of that random-named texture map I was seeing with the materials that used Corona Bitmap node.

Two caveats to this "workaround". The consolidate option did NOT collect the .vrmesh for the Cosmos model I added to this test scene or the HDRI for some reason. Still much faster than replacing materials on the other system/farm where the rendering will take place.

The last point is C4D's assets inspector will show the warning icon that the assets are there, but have the wrong path. Just a quick asset re-link and ready to render.

Well all right then. I'm already doing things the Corona way then. I've been called "legacy" a few times as well. ha

Thanks for the reply.

I'm no doctor, but if indeed you have models you didn't create and it will be unreasonable to try and fix the mesh, for a flat surface like that the handy Cubic projection setting would work even if the topology is bad. Usually. Just have to adjust the scale to make sure it's right.

This example is a little extreme, but it's a Cosmos rug object, made editable and stretched quite a bit. The topology isn't bad necessarily, but by stretching it creates long triangles. The carpet is from the library. On the bottom is the material set to follow the UVs. Not so good, a little different than your issue. The top is the same object and the same material set to Cubic. Since there isn't a specific need to follow those UVs (which I struggle with) on a flat surface, it's a much quicker solution in many cases.

[C4D] General Discussion / HDRI Lighting

I have noticed over the years that many times when you grab an image to use for lighting, it may also come with a low-res blurry version called Environment, a medium res clear version-2k usually and one large file coming in a 16k or so.

What is the proper use of that small blurry file? Environment override? What's the advantage of using the blurry image versus just letting the sky provide reflections?

Looks like they give you the credits directly on their end.

Curious. So on your test with my model, is the car moving left to right? The decals on your example are crisp, but mine are very blurred. In my final animation, which you moved to the gallery section, shows there is some additional camera movement in addition to the camera following the car, so I should expect some decal blur, not what I'm actually getting. And of course the shutter speed will affect the blur, but I assume you used my set up.

This was a just-for-fun project, so don't drive yourself crazy. One thing I did not try was using v9 release. I made it with v10 daily.

Added a decal to the front wheel just to see. Same result for me.

I have read good things about Rebus and their estimator was the best one I've tried so far. Since I'm on a Mac and can almost never find an equivalent CPU to match, their option of use a Cinebench score fixed that problem.

I was unaware about free credits with my sub. Where would I find those?

Also, what's the store with the Chaos farm solution? I don't think it's available for Cinema 4D yet, but wondering if the costs would be competitive. Frankly, theirs should be cheaper since it would be a value added service to spending all that money on subscriptions. Just a thought, but a pipe dream I'm sure.

OK so I'm back. I have collected just the car and will upload after this post. I think my issue has more to do with textures map than the meshes blurring. In the annotated image, you can see the center of the wheels are properly blurred, while the sidewall texture is not, only horizontally. In addition, the Decals are blurred, but they should not since the camera is a child of the car's motion.

The second image is the inspiration for this model. My son's Pinewood Derby car from 10 years ago.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Corona itself doesn't like the infinite plane object or the floor object as it's called. You just need to use a huge plane. Maybe two or three planes with less and less detail.

Appreciate the tip.

[C4D] General Discussion / Affordable Render Farm Services
« on: 2023-03-13, 21:32:11 »
I know there are some posts about farms, but they're all over the place and many are very old.

I have some architectural type animations I need to do. Static room and simple, slow camera moves. It's just too much for my old iMac Pro. A 10 second move can easily be 24 hours with moderate number of passes and denoising. There is a long list of farm services on Corona's web site. It's a little daunting. So far, Rebus is the only site that I can input my exact CPU. The others I have to guess a comparable chip and fingers crossed.

For Corona peeps that have used farms, what is your top five companies I should look at for price/performance? I assume I'll have to be careful with shared textures and the Corona Bitmap problem.

The other question is, I have been using the daily builds, but not using any specific feature of v10. In the past, I have rendered newer Corona version on nodes with a lesser version of Corona without problem. I'm sure I could go back to v9 and save again. Thanks for any advice.

Have not tested yet, but I will after a deadline later today. In my example, I have raised, white lettering on the sidewall of the tires which is what seems to be blurred only in the horizontal plane.

Gallery / Endless Engines Community Challenge
« on: 2023-03-12, 22:46:43 »
I didn't find out about this challenge until two weeks ago, but I managed to get something together by the deadline. It's put on by Clint Jones (goes by pwnisher online), formerly of Corridor Crew. Great YouTube channel if you haven't checked it out. They break down all sorts of VFX shots with industry experts, have their own in-house challenges and great how-to videos. Any way, Clint has does these in the past where he provides a starter scene with some elements that needs to stay mostly intact, but you can do anything within that space. Their are only 120 frames and he strings them together into a super long collage. Then they pick the top 100, then the top 10 for prizes. I didn't have much time to put into this, so I chose a theme where I didn't have to rig a car or character, mostly straight out of Corona v10 daily. I added a little smoke and exhaust fire FX in AE. I also chose a nostalgic theme, at least here in America. The young Boy Scouts will make these wooden cars called Pinewood Derby with a kit and certain parameters and race them against the other scouts' cars. Gravity only so they have to think about aerodynamics and weight distribution. I built these cars based on the cars I helped my son build. The red one got second place overall.

This is my entry. This clip loops four times. My idea was the cars are racing on their own when nobody is around. Fun and good practice. If you search YouTube for Endless Engines, many of posted their entries. Lots of creative stuff.

You might have to copy and paste this link. This forum never likes these links for some reason. Just delete that space.

Is your wheel rotating and moving across?

I cranked up the rotation of the wheel by as much as 4 times and got the same result. Sure would be nice to get expected results from a realistic render engine.
