Cant add a bezier float node to the absortion distance of CoronaMaterial in Slate material editor, the parameter is not visible. Using Alpha V7

As Corona only have cilindrical and spherical for now i made this to bypass that limitation.

As guide a typical spherical image are something like this:

This kind of images Corona can handle but in the other hand
A hemispherical ligthprobe  is something like this:

This sadly... Corona can render yet.

But don't be afraid... we can do it in no time!... a great hemispherical ligthprobe image rendered in Corona (with some help).

JUST:

Render your scene using a CoronaCameraMod to obtain a 2:1 ratio image (twice the width as height)   and  save it in jpg, png (or hdri if you intend to correct it later).

Load that image as environment using VrayHdri map. Hide all your model and ligths and change renderer to Vray.

In Render Setup (F10)-> Vray-> Vray: Camera change camera type to Fish eye and check "autofit" dont forget to change your resolution to a Width=Height (1024x1024 by example) to obtain a fast 180° hemispherical panorama. (I think those are calle chromeballs).

This projections are used to ligth a sky domes or lighten a planetarium.

You can even take a step further and make an animation of it like some cool sky timelapses that hiperfocal design are showcasing.

As side note: if you render some hughe resolution, doing a full size render of the initial spherical panorama could can eat some RAM (and why to render some you dont need) a workaround for that would be using render región (available in VFB Settings, just change native Corona VFB to native 3DSMax and set a proper area of interest). This way you select the area of interest and render it and not the whole image.
Another posibility if your RAM is scarce  coul be using the same aproach of Render region but this time render a lot of small parts of the image to compose later in some image stitchin sowtware.

Hope this helps.

Resume:
Render a spherical 2:1 pano in Corona with CoronaCameraMod
Load the result as VrayHDRI
Hide absolutely all and  render with Vray fisheye camera type override (autofit).

And that's it... an awesome great fisheye render of your scene using Corona with a little help.

Note 1: A better way to do it is using the VrayDomeCamera with FOV=180. That produces a less distorted image.

[Max] Tutorials & Guides / My Corona caustic aproach
« on: 2014-10-07, 07:17:45 »
Hi guys i just want to share some info on how i aproach the caustic generation using Corona.

The idea came up earlier this week when i was doing a glass over a table.

I know the caustics are quite render expensive but i came with this method and is quite fast.

Get the best of both worlds, realistic caustics from an experimental "incomplete" Bidir/VCM and the awesome beauty pass of Corona Progresive/bucket.

The plus?
You can do Caustics + dispersion using what corona gives you and quite fast.

The idea is to get something like this:

So here it is the max file, the images needed a pdf explaining (the best i can) the method and a couple of photoshop files showing the compositing part.

It came up so well that it can be used to do animated caustics very fast and very accurate.

EDIT: Now it has a proper thread on Corona goodies  here:
http://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,5307.0.html

I just found this script laying around.

It seems handy... if you are used to work with slate nodes.
Can be a life saver... who knows, besides it was designed to work with Corona materials only (and maybe other render engines later).

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Help with fireflies
« on: 2014-09-11, 19:50:40 »
Hi guys.
I was playing with CoronaVolumeMtl  and i'm getting a horde of fireflies.

Its a simple scene, no fancy stuff.

Check this out, as you can see the fireflies does not go away, instead keeps appearing (default settings even after 4000 passes).

Attached is the max scene and some renders at 20- 40- 80 passes so you better see. (Max 2014). If any want to take a look at it, most apreciated.

Maybe some bug?

General CG Discussion / It seems Arnold goes opencl gpu...
« on: 2014-08-05, 23:43:17 »
It seems Arnold are going to showcase a GPU prototype ray tracing renderer at SIGGRAPH2014.
Must see that... mostly cause they seems to be doing in OpenCl instead of CUDA.

(Key master, add "forgive my english" button next to Post button please. XD)

Ok now... i try to add some noise controller  in curves editor for a ligth material texture offset inside a color correct node just to found no editable items listed.

I can see in render that the offset are actually animated.

I animated the offset and i want to add some random movement for the map wiring the offset u and V to some noise controller.

Property not shown in Curves editor.

Anyone or just me?...

I just read this... what do you guys think?... its really a "breakthrough"?...

I'm facing a strange issue. Rendering a hybrido bin mesh from realflow, if i select a frame an hit render, it renders with no hassle but when i render the secuence, there is no actualization in the mesh topology so Corona renders all the animations but the liquid mesh stays in his initial form (not deforming at all).

Today i try to render some animation made in Phoenix FD and i'm facing the same problem. I select a frame and hit render, everything is good. When i hit render sequence, everything goes to hell.  Animation renders good, but liquids are not updated frame by frame.

Maybe is the same related bug.

It can be solved by a script that selects a frame and renders (saves) frame by frame but that is a cumbersome solution. (I have not experience in maxscript whatsoever). bit can't use this solution in farm.

Maybe someone could help me with that in the meantime.

Work in Progress/Tests / My corona random stuff.
« on: 2014-04-28, 05:50:06 »
I decided to play at large with corona i'll post here to avoid the topic overflow.

Textures and assets used by corona doesn't show in "References->Assets Tracking" neither "Bitmap/Photometric Paths".

It could be useful feature to hunt for missing textures, copy collect textures to a folder or reroute textures, ies and assets paths.

Just something that came out before sleep and was born on wake up.

Corona is pretty amazing... full creativity, no wasting time with endless setting.

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Help with bokeh...
« on: 2014-03-28, 20:59:32 »
I tried to create a custom bokeh to Corona camera using nodes as in the legos post in the gallery.

BUT...

Still not working...

The box has the bokeh mapped so you can see it.

But the ligth (Small spheres with coronamat  with selfillumination) shows a square bokeh in dof... any suggestions?...
