Regarding the last shot, fisheye camera now supports DOF in daily builds. Just sayin... :)

As a fan of all things dark and creepy I also like you works a lot! And it's always great to see something else than sterile archviz.

Which version of Corona are you using?
How exactly to reproduce the issue?
I could try it on Max 2021-2023, is it enough to just create a box or any simple geometry, start IR, and move the vertices?

It's possible with the 3ds Max "Fog" enviro effect.
Just don't use Corona Bitmap for this. Use the native 3ds Max Bitmap. For some reason the Corona Bitmap is mapped onto objects incorrectly when using this.

I tried reproducing this in Max 2022 and 2023, Corona 8 HF2 and the 05.08 V9 daily, but everything is working as expected. I tried doing things like regular rendering, IR, creating new materials, editing material values with IR on and off, it works the same way with the connection on and off. If you are able to somehow reproduce it, please report it to us and we will try to find out what may be wrong.

I thought it was a material from the Corona Material Library. It isn't, right?

I was able to immediately reproduce it in your scene, but not in my scene with a similar material.
I also noticed that it goes away if small changes are made, for example:
- you disable real world size option
- you change the plane's segments from 2x2 to 3x3

Could you share this super simple scene with me? I tried reproducing it for a pretty long time with exactly the same material but it always renders fine for me with no glitches.
Are you using default render settings? Maybe some custom value for displacement size?

But it was a problem. In the middle of the working session 3ds Max suddenly started to freeze heavily. Every time i did some change in material editor, Max would completely freeze for minute or so. i thought it's a Max thing, but then i noticed Corona error window with message that it's unable to acquire the license and material previews became black. The moment internet connection came back, everything start working again. It's not that i would work without internet for a week or so - Corona went crazy immediately after connection was lost.

Thanks for sharing this, we will run some checks. I remember testing this (e.g. shutting down the network adapter) and everything was working as expected, but maybe we missed something or something changed.

My internet went down today for few minutes and instantly Corona became unusable. Frankly i'm shocked to see how much licensing is dependent on good connection. I'm lucky that my internet is very stable and short interruptions are very rare. I can't imagine what's like to work with Chaos products for someone who has intermittent connection.

If you have activated your license and internet connection drops mid-work, this should not be a problem unless you restart your host app.

If your internet connection is stable and only sometimes drops (happens to everyone, right?), this should not be a problem (because: see above).

If you know that your connection is poor so that you can predict it will drop from time to time (e.g. mobile data), you can borrow a license for offline usage for 14 days (and you can repeat that): https://docs.chaos.com/display/LIC5/Borrowing+Licenses+for+Offline+Use

Oh, now i got it, you need to change the ID Mode to "Pattern object". My bad, but maybe it's better to make it the default?

anyways I've already recorded the video, so I'll attach it :D

I can’t make a full-fledged example with a working case right now, I just recorded a short video, yes, it just cuts out everything that does not fit and leaves gaps


corona_vray_randomize.mp4 - I think you only need to change the multimap mode to "Mesh Element" (see screenshot). The only issue is that if the pattern node consists of more than one element, then those elements will be colored differently. So instead of two boxes always being the same color, we will get two boxes with two different colors. I think for this to work as expected we would need a new "Pattern" randomization mode, like we have for Decals. :)

About this point:

01. Chaos Cosmos assets using only .tx textures. The only benefit of this format is mipmapping. Does corona renderer support this internal mipmap instructions or it is currently used in "read only" mode ?
      If corona have some internal benefits using .tx textures, it will be great to have the option in converter to convert classic jpg/png/tiffs to tx format. If not, then it will be great to have the option to convert tx textures back to common jpg file format.

We only have initial support for TX textures so that we can render Cosmos assets. We are working on some improvements (out of core rendering of textures) that would work not only with TX but with all texture formats. The main benefit is potentially saving a lot of RAM. Strange, maybe try selecting the Corona Bitmap you are using for displacement and cycling through its "Channel Outputs" options.
