[C4D] I need help! / Help with refraction please
« on: 2024-05-08, 11:08:37 »
hello. on this issue, I have some bell jars. when I place the bell jar over the item the refraction is CRAZY. It looks like the whole thing is full of water or something. I've attached a screenshot and a rudimentary file. Can someone help? You'll have to drop an HRDI into the scene to light it perhaps.... (mine's too big).

[C4D] I need help! / Translucency on Mult-Pass Masks
« on: 2024-04-25, 12:00:59 »
Hi. I have a quick query.
A lot of the things I do are retail concepts. A lot of these feature a clear acrylic case/tank/box to stop theft. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
Sometimes (more often than not) the client would like to see the display on a completely white page.
So, if I do this and set a muti-pass mask it'll do a solid block alpha channel of the whole unit. Whatever was behind the clear acrylic tank/case in the original render will be shown.
Is there a way of creating a more 'in depth' mask that captures the translucency of the material so I can overlay the visual on to any background?
See below for an image of the results I'm getting at the moment - branding and product blurred out because of NDA's etc...

A workaround I can do at the moment is put a white box right behind the boxes but it's not ideal!

[C4D] I need help! / Instances with Decals. Problem
« on: 2024-04-23, 12:01:17 »
Hello. I've recently noticed that when I have an object that involves a decal if I make an instance of it, the decal will not render. it's clearly in the structure of the model and it's even in the wireframe preview but it doesn't render out.

Is this a known bug? Am I doing something wrong?

See below for screenshots of details.

Hello.
I have different scenes which quite often have the same items in them. Therefore, I'll tend to copy the object from one scene, then open the other, then paste it. When I do this, the materials go bananas more often than not. Sometimes It'll just do straight swaps of my base colour materials, sometimes it'll just switch off the transparancy. Sometimes the translucency of my liquids and stuff will be completely wrong.

I've tried saving objects out, then merging them into my new scene (which is an absolute pain in the arse anyway) but its still goes wrong.

Is this a known bug? Is there a fix? It's happening to my colleague too so I know it's not just me...

Hi All.
I work a lot with metal and glass materials. Mainly in the fragrance industry.
Is there a way to 'see' the colours and materials a little better in the working window? It's quite frustrating when literally everything in my entire scene is black....!
Wondering if there's a way I can force a colour to at least display so I can see what's what when working...?
Thanks in advance....

[C4D] I need help! / Shadowcatcher
« on: 2024-01-31, 14:27:30 »
Hello. I'm trying to work with the shadowcatcher material but my shadows are coming out grainy. I've tried fiddling with pretty much every setting I can see. If I render the scene onto a white 'floor' the shadows look absolutely fine. If I use a shadowcatcher then the shadows are very grainy.

Are there any settings I can play with that'll sort this? I have three Corona lights in the scene.

See attached image for two renders. One directly onto white. The other a shadowcatcher material, then with white behind it (in photoshop)
Any help massively appreciated...

[C4D] I need help! / DECALS and Instances
« on: 2024-01-18, 18:57:04 »
Hello
I often create a design concept where I have to show various views of the same item. I will usually create an instance of the object, move and rotate it etc.
Usually when I create the instance - the decal will just go missing. Won't feature on the render.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it a glitch/bug?
Any workarounds?
Thanks in advance!

Hi All.
Been given a job where someone's dropped a 'standard' 3D model (with textures) into a Corona scene for me to carry out some amends on. However, all the textures are in 'standard' format and render out very dull.
Is there a way to quickly convert them all to Corona? There's nothing special or anything in there like volumetrics etc.
Surely there's a 'convert to Corona' button somewhere?
:)

Hi everyone.
We have to churn out a lot of renders here. Are there any tips you people can suggest to help me and my colleagues speed things up at all? Materials / Render settings etc? Other than going out and buying new computers of course...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hello. I work in retail display design. Basically, for a shop to allow something to go into it, they need to see what it looks like - this is where I come in.
I would like to create a generic 'white room' in which to drop my concepts and 'just set it off rendering' so to speak.
I've been trying for a while but just can't seem to get it just right. I would prefer it to have good lighting without me having to move specific lights when I move the camera ideally. Also, a lot of the concepts we do are based on white materials so it's going to be tricky there too.
Does anyone have a link to a tutorial or any general tips on doing this please? Or even a link so something I can download and tweak...?

Any tips/advice/links/suggestions greatly appeciated...!

See attachment for the kind of thing we're after...

[C4D] I need help! / Help me please on a displacement!
« on: 2023-09-14, 14:25:51 »
Hello
I have an aftershave bottle here. It's glass. It needs a logo displacement map on the front.
I'd usually get the glass material on there. Then create a new material with just the displacement activated and drop that on - then click the 'add material' box to incorporate it as a displaced (raised) logo.

How is this done in Corona?
I've tried the same method but with Corona materials and I'm getting strange results.  See attachment.

Thanks in advance folks.

[C4D] I need help! / Happing a logo onto an object

Hello.
I have a Mac Studio running an M1 Ultra. I've been doing all my work on that as of late. However I have a fairly powerful ThreadRipper based PC sitting on my desk doing nothing at the moment so I thought I'd set up Team Render on that to help out in busy times.
So, I installed it on the PC and updated all the software (C4D and Corona) to the latest versions etc.
Got myself a scene that takes 3:45 to render on my Mac.
I opened it directly on the PC to see how quickly it rendered. Was about the same time, give or take 5 seconds.
So, I opened it again on my Mac and team rendered it. It took a fair bit longer.
I assume this is because assets are transferring across, etc, etc.?
This being the case, are there any things I can do to speed it up?
OR
Is it just better in single frame circumstances to do single frame renders on a single machine?
If you do have suggestions for speeding up team renders please let me know!

[C4D] I need help! / Fog in Scenes
« on: 2023-08-10, 10:39:33 »
Hello. Just trying to teach myself a few things here. I'm trying to achieve a 'fog' effect.
I have a scene where I have a Corona Sky. Within it is a "Shanghai at night" HDR. This provides the illumination and a background for the image.
To create the fog I created a Volume Material and messed around with some of the variables until I was happy. Then I have gone into the render settings and gone into "Scene Environment", then dropped the new material into the "Global Volume". See attached for the material settings etc.
The density, etc is all great. However, The fog is very 'grainy'. Upping the passes from 20 to much higher doesn't seem to fix this.
I'm sure there's a slider somewhere to increase samples or something but can you please show me what I need to do?
Attached are the settings for the material. I've also attached a screen grab of a 'grainy' area...
Thanks in advance

[C4D] I need help! / Beginner question about materials!
« on: 2023-07-19, 15:16:30 »
Hello
I have this material from the Corona library. Mapped it to a ball. Looks great. Popped it onto a wall and it looks rubbish! Any ideas of what's going wrong here?
