[Max] I need help! / Re: When to stop the render
« on: 2015-09-02, 11:58:11 »
That is true, I was just trying to imply that the longer you leave the render going, the more developed will be your picture, and the shutter it's a good explanation, but I agree that I should have explained that in this case the "shutter" I'm talking about just affects noise, and the real exposure shutter is a separate setting in the corona camera mod, the physical camera or corona render settings :)

But I found that this explanation makes it easy for people to understand how the engine works.

Cheers.

HI Philippe.

This is a different type of render engine, the render can last forever if you want, think about it like the shutter speed of a camera, the longer it is exposed, the most light enters in the sensor.

This is somewhat similar, you may define a fixed render time, let's say 10 minutes, and you will be sure that the render process will be finished in 10 minuts, but the image could be still very noisy, the other way to stop the render is to define a sampling level, for example 100 samples, this way you will ensure a minimum sampling level (a defined noise level), and this is the mode you should use for animations to avoide different noise levels between frames, now, how do you define the sampling level you want? you can leave the render for an undefined time and check the level from time to time, one you see you are in the level you want you know this is the stop level you should use, also you can think in time, try limiting the render in time, let's say 15 minutes, now if you are happy with that result check the level reached and use that, if you are not happy, repeat the proccess but increasing the time.

BTW sampling levels are passes in corona.

Hope this helps you a bit.

Cheers!

Ondra but the problem I see in those pictures is that the resulting picture is missmatching, you can see that in the floor for example, the lines of the texture are not correctly aligned, can this be provoqued by UDH?

Cheers!

The first thing I woudl try is to use render region instead of crop, I never liked crop too much, I'm not sure but maybe there is a camera related problem with crop because your seams seem to be related with the pictures not matching perfectly due to a different perspective, I may be wrong, but maybe crop is affecting that.

I think if you a render region, as long as you render the pieces up the the same sampling level, they should match perfectly, or near perfectly, I'm not sure if there can be any problem with the noise pattern, but it's a different problem than the one you show here.

Hope what I said makes sense :)

Cheers.

Hi there guys.

I've been tinkering a bit trying to achieve a proper matte shadow "state" for objects in the scene so I can render just an object inside the scene maintaining the light around it but getting just the object and the object casted shadows and GI.

So far I tried to di this:

test_shadow_switch.JPG

And I get this, wich is a cool beauty, and an uncool alpha.

Now I'm wondering how to avoid all this lighting effect in the environment because I need the object and it's effect in the rest of the scene (in this case the text) and I need the reflections and the light to be the same as in the actual real scene without shadow catcher, so I need all the objects with the correct material for GI/Reflection/Refraction,and I override this material just for direct.

if I use the shadow catcher in the Global Illumination slot, as you can imagine all the reflections and lighting change, but I get the alpha I need.

test_shadow_switch_result_gioverriden.JPG

So the question is how can I achieve the beauty of the first sample and the alpha of the second sample in the same render?

Best regards!

P.S.: I forgot how to include attachements in line, can someone refresh me this so I can include the pictures in the post?

It feels like if the vray material had a bit of anysotropy because the speculation reflection is not round, it's a bit deformed in a direction, I may be completely wrong but is what I see in the vray picture.

Cheers.

[Archive] Chaos Corona for Maya / Re: Corona Scatter

That was with Maya 2015, yeah the v2.0 is already the default - I did not know they were going to remove it from Maya though.

I'm not saying they are going to do that, just that they probably will do that, if now it's called legacy, then usually the legacy parts of the software gets removed after one or two releases, this is based in my experience with SDK's and such things, in other packages the lagacy is eternal hahaha

Did you try 2016 with that scene? VP2 has been improved A LOT, and maya performance in general with the new evaluations graphs and the help of the GPU.

Cheers.

RickToxik, what version of Maya were you using? Because in 2016 VP2.0 is the default viewport, and the old viewport is now called legacy so I bet it will disappear in some releases, so if the VP2.0 performance is bad you should commiunicate it to autodesk via bug report or something similar.

Cool scene anyways, TV deadlines are always crazy :)

Nekrobul very beautiful indeed :)

Agree with the wood floor thing, if you fix that you will have a very beautifull photo :D

Congrats!

Hi james_g_brown

Are you sure you are configuring Corona to stop after 70 passes instead of time?

I know it's pretty basic, but sometimes the most basic things are the ones we overlook :)

So far latest DB is working pretty great, no crashes and it even feels a bit faster, I may b wrong, it's an old scene and I did the reset settings thing.

Cheers!

This could be awesome indeed, but I'm also afraid that there may be some patent issues, I hope Ondra can achieve a better result in it's own way! Hehehe

Cheers

IMHO you won't last too much in learning how to use Blender, the latest versions has a 3dsmax mapped set of hotkeys, so it will be familiar to you, in the end what you need is to integrate a point cache of your scene and render it, anyways, of course you will have to dedicate time to learn it, Pencil is too expensive IMHO, but it all depends on your needs and budget :)

Cheers!

redlad, I did not know you did Gumball!!! Congrats on that! I REALLY like that tv series, it's awesome, and my daughter loves it too!

If you need help for specific shots I may be able to help (www.bone-studio.com), I'll write to the email anyways.

Cheers!
