I would rather avoid messing these up in PS as these are not done by me or Ondra, but by a professional 2D designer. ;)

Also, color is still a subject to possible change and orange is rather a random choice, so you should focus on shapes rather than colors ;)

If I'm being honest, none of the logos in the first post stand out to me.  That's just me though and I know my opinion is just a grain of sand on the beach.  I kind of like the first one in your last post though.

Yellow/orange colors I think would work well for your logo based on stuff like this: http://www.usabilitypost.com/2008/09/29/a-guide-to-choosing-colors-for-your-brand/

corona means crown, but also plasma atmosphere around sun is called a corona and that logo does seem to represent just that... in a "foundry" way...

In my opinion none of the images listed in this topic can be considered a good contemporary logo. I would even say that the current logo is much better than some of the new ones posted here. I would suggest doing some research on modern logotypes, here is a GREAT website with lots of inspiring stuff:
http://designspiration.net/tag/logo/

You can clearly see nowadays minimalism and geometric shape is the key to good graphic identification. Even big companies tend to remove as much as they can to make logos super informative and eye catching at the same time. Here are some examples, some better, some worse but it illustrates a trend that governs modern branding:
http://www.rebrandblog.pl/
(sorry, Polish only, but it's the images that counts)

The only one that is usable is 2.png from first post but the font is terrible.

In my opinion a logo is EXTREMELY important and should be picked very carefully. Of course you can chose a unique logo without following modern rules but it's risky. Picking a bad one can force you to changing it and changing logos doesn't do much good to company's reputation.

How about an open competition? Even without prizes.

and if like this?)
No, it's cheap, ugly, and not usable as a logo.

Why not keep the "temporary" one? I like it. And besides, a logo is only what you made of it, marketing wise. On its own, it means nothing. :)

I actually like the first and last ones from the image above Keymaster posted. It also seems suitable for a material test object like this one from LuxRender:

I totaly agree i wanted to say it, maybe optimizing it a little bit, but the simplicity of the font and the nice circular effects makes you feel a serious logo...
