Build Mar 30

I have one scene (not very heavy, but with quite a lot materials) where max hangs when i'm working in material editor when interactive is running. It happens not immediately, but after some time (few minutes)and at random points. Sometimes when trying to open ME, sometimes when creating new material or map. It becomes responsive after 5-6 minutes.

Scene contains many standart materials with unsupported Normal Bump maps and missing bitmaps. Material editor is in Slate mode.

Tell me if you need max file for investigation.

can you get me 2 things?
- the file CoronaInteractive201x from the Corona folder inside 3dsmax folder inside C:/users/your username
- minidump when 3dsmax is frozen (you can do it via process explorer even if nothing crashes)
Rendering is magic. How to get minidumps for crashed/frozen 3ds Max | Sorry for short replies, brief responses = more time to develop Corona ;)

Sure. I tried to create minidump via task manager, but it came out pretty huge (~3GB). Should i install process explorer as stated in this article or just pack regular dump and send it to you?

you can do either - but faster is probably using process explorer as it allows you to create regular 2MB minidumps...

No. That was only with that particular scene and it fixed itself after i converted max normalbump maps to Corona bumpmaps, AFAIR.

Sorry, i lied. Today i opened that same scene and after few minutes of work it happened again - max freezed for several minutes. It happened when IR was running and i clicked on global volume material assign button in render setup window. I didn't touch this scene since original bug reporting, that's why i thought it is fixed. Scene doesn't contain unsupported normal bump maps, but it has few substance maps if that matters. After max unfreezes, i can work with scene with no problem.

Can you try to create me a memory dump (via process explorer) during the freeze?

Is the CPU busy during that time?

BTW: I cannot load symbols for your 3ds max version. Do you have the latest service pack installed?

CPU is busy at ~16 percent during freeze. I'll try to create mini dump next time it freezes.

I believe so, in about window it sais: product version 16.0 SP5

Ok, so i've managed to freeze max again in that scene and created minidump with process explorer. Uploaded it. Hope you'll be able to read it somehow.

this should be fixed in daily builds after some threading improvements
