This is driving me nuts. I work on a file and when I close and try to reopen it, I get an error and 3dsmax shuts down. When I merge the file in a blank one, everything imports ok except corona lights, it causes 3dsmax to crush. Is there a way to solve it?

so even scenes created entirely in 7.1 crash when opened with 7.1? There was a bug in 7, that caused the light to crash even 7.1

you will have to merge and re-create the lights. Rest of the scene should work fine.
