This is a great feature. I would love to see something like this in Corona. Currently, I move the region box by hand if I need to.

As I understand, it is about adding feather/outline offset in pixels to render mask?
Corona in 3ds Max already supports viewport selection, include/exclude list and GBufferID defined render mask.

It's about having the region box follow or track the piece of geometry as it moves across the frame.

How does it differ from object mask?
Specifically, how exactly it is better than object mask?

The object mask doesn't use the region bonding box that will follow the object through the frame. Unless it does, and I am not aware of that feature?

Why use the region to follow it?
Object mask is itself updated if there is animation, and it is most probably more optimized, as it is rendering the exact pixels needed, not a region covering them.

Even wilder - you can create any custom shape, even animated it, apply a specific material (fully transparent without shading) and use it as a mask. It it in fact much more versatile than a simple rectangle mask following an object.

You can also use the 3ds Max Render Setup > Common > Area to Render > Selected.

Or if you specifically want a region "Auto region selection" (this will change mode to region) is exactly the thing you want I guess.
