Substituting descriptive text buttons with nondescript icons?

Using drop-down menus even when there are only two options to choose from? This UI design is truly subpar!

Also, i know there was a mailout awhile back trying to minimize ppl's expectations around release versions, but...
Is "The improved Corona Sky supports even lower sun angles below the horizon", "Corona Pattern improvements", "Enhanced material conversions" really worth a version upgrade?  Especially when Chaos is reaming everyone with new pricing?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing did they test the UI and take into account the user bases thoughts or just throw it out and see what happens. They could have added more colour grading tools and a real time histogram. And fixed up the curve tool so it's more usable.

I also agree with you on the corona12 release the additional features for Corona itself are really not worthy of a version upgrade should have just been added in a daily.

The new pricing was over 6 months ago now, so more related to 11 than 12. Strange choice of features to call out, when you don't include export to Vantage (long requested way to make Corona scenes compatible with GPU rendering), multiple LightMixes (long requested feature), cloud Density which is much bigger than lower horizon angles (but hey that is still useful as one of the smaller improvements, but I sure wouldn't call it out as the reason for 12 like you are doing), enhanced conversions well that is also long requested and again is not given as a main reason for this update, you miss out the super flexible new abilities in Scatter too... a bit of a cherry picked choice to try and make 12 sound small ;)

We never tried to minimize people's expectations for releases, except in terms of the Vantage export where we wanted people to be aware in advance that it would not include animating from your DCC in this version. That was an important expectation to manage.

All said and done though, let us know via the Feature Requests what features would make it a "big" update for you, as hearing that is the important part and we consider all requests there! Thanks!

Aside from the feature talk, some changes in the VFB UI took the usability backwards.

In previous versions one was able to copy the LightMix color swatches just using the right click (or even simply by dragging one on top of another? not sure about that)
It's tedious going inside the Color Selection popup every time and using the eyedropper tool.

I'm not against refreshing the interface, but it would be nice to keep the functionality :)

Thanks!

Hi,

Lightmix color drag-and-drop is already fixed internally and shall be in the upcoming hotfix.

Hi, Aram

Many thanks for the reply, this is great news.
There is one more inconsistency with previous versions: After turning the denoiser on in Render Settings, it doesn't turn on in the Frame Buffer, but has to be checked manually. I think old behavior made more sense.

Cheers

This is already known, and guess what - it is already fixed. Shall be part of the upcoming hotfix.

I am not a big fan of the UI redesign either, everything is way too flat and clean and therefore looses its hierarchy, but I can live with that.
The only thing I really, really miss about the new UI is that I was able to long press on the start button, open a drop down and release my mouse on the "start interactive rendering" button. Now I have to micro aim on the drop down triangle and do a second click. It would be really awesome if you could reintroduce this, thanks for reading!

Start interactive rendering should be a toggle button, not a start only button.
Currently I have a maximum of 3 passes for IR. I want to edit my scene without IR updating but I can't unless I close the VFB
