doh!  not sure what i'm doing wrong here but i thought that the coronaportalmtl worked by simply applying the material to a single (1x1) polygon.  i've done that in the scene attached but still it renders with no light.  any help would be greatly appreciated.  thanks.

From what I see, you didn't place any lights in your scene. Portals are not lights. You should use environment light (like corona sky or hdri) and portals in windows or other small holes to tell Corona how to render the interior more efficiently.

oh, i thought the portal material assigned to a 1x1 plane was the same as a light plane.  doh! so i presume from this that an interior scene rendered with just a hdri environment map should not render as good as the same scene rendered with the portals added.  i'll test that myself.  thanks for your help.

For this you can add CoronaLightMtl to that plane with emission enabled.

It would render as good but not as fast. :)
