Hi guys,
I took an old scene I made 3 years ago in VRay and converted it to Corona in order to make some animations. The exterior shots are great but I'm having some problems in the interior...
I attached the first 3 frames - I'm having "flickering" in some areas with high glossiness - You can see it in the kitchen appliances in the back (which I can solve by simply deactivate those reflections), but the main problem is in the wine glasses. The first test render was set to a level of 5.5% noise and took about 1 hour per frame to render (16cores\32 threads machine), than I lowered the noise to 4% - the render took 2 hours per frame but the results are not much better.
The glass material is simple glass (screenshot attached)
So, is this a normal ?Any solution other than loewr the noise level ? I can't lower the noise threshold anymore - render times will get too high....
And another question - When I rendered a certain test frame to picture viewer it took 1 hour. When I rendered the same frame with same settings with Interactive render it took only 47 minuets to get to the same level noise. Why so much difference between the two ?

Peace,
Kobi

Hi 3dkobi!

You could try to play with the MSI setting. Look at this article: https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000035826-what-is-max-sample-intensity-msi-in-corona-renderer-for-cinema-4d-
Thanks for the link, I read the article but didn't understand - Should I lower the MSI ?

Yes, lower values mean less fireflies. But also less realistic illumination, so be careful. Also, the value of 0 is a special case, which wouldn't work for you, so don't set it to zero.

MSI actually won't affect materials with reflection/refraction glossiness at 1, so here are some other options:
- Lower the reflection and/or refraction glossiness of your materials which are showing the fireflies to something like 0,99 - this will let MSI kick in
- Use bloom and glare and sharpening and blurring in the VFB post (this may be unwanted if you are planning some post processing in other apps)
- Use highlight clamping (not to be mistaken with highlight compression!) - https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000035830 (this may be unwanted if you are saving to 32 bits as you will lose high dynamic range)
- Fix it in post by clamping/blurring

Thanks for the info...
where can I find the "highlight clamping" ?

Thank you very much - using highlight clamping of 1.5 solved this issue

Glad it solved the issue for you! Hopefully the lighting in the image isn't too off then...

Hmm, while on the topic, what is the difference between MSI and Highlight clamping? If I recall correctly MSI is basically a GI clamp and the Highlight clamping clamps only the image post-linear image while the base calculations aren't changed?
