Hi,

I'm trying to get the new caustics working on a current project swimming pool scene but I just get tons of fire flies.

The water is a solid object with a large noise displacement map, IOR 1.33 for both. The water object is bigger than the container would that be an issue? If so how would I manage that with displacement also being on?

The example on the blog looks amazing with the caustics in the pool and wall but cant seem to get anything like that.

I did try a new test scene with just a glass, plane and light but still cant seem to get it.

- Material Editor - Caustics (slow) - on
- Render setup - Caustics solver - enabled

I was wondering if the swimming pool scene was available somewhere on the site so I can see where I've gone wrong?

Thank you in advance

For how long did you let the image render? Some fireflies that appear at the start of the rendering may disappear after few minutes.

Can you post a screenshot of the problem?

An example image showing the issue would be very appreciated. Otherwise we don't really know what exactly we are talking about here.

Hi,

I cant upload the scene I was having trouble with as it's a live project but through trial and error I realised the sun angle didn't lend itself to the caustics I was looking for + not waiting long enough.

Honestly, I've tried it with a water plane, then solid geometry and... I'm just seeing a bunch of fireflies that don't converge into what should look like caustics. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe my random test HDRi doesn't suit the need.

HDRIs are not a great way to get caustics - far better to have them come from a light source (e.g. a Corona sun). Maybe try that and see if it makes a difference? (You can disable caustics from the environment, usually those are going to be much harder to calculate than caustics from a light source).

We will soon release a new build with improved caustics. Please re-test your scenes once it's out.
