Hi,

I've installed CR 1.7 RC9 because I was hoping for some less RAM usage but unfortunately it ended up using more RAM. The scene I'm rendering takes up 70Gb of RAM and I have 72Gb installed, so this is a close shave. When I had 1.6 installed this worked fine but with 1.7 3ds Max crashes. The road map showed that there was some memory optimization but now it's using even more RAM, so I'm wondering where the optimization takes place. Can somebody shed a light on this?

I believe the largest optimization of memory in 1.7 was for render elements, which need 25 to 75% less memory.

Yep, the render elements memory footprint was significantly lowered. We had more plans regarding the memory optimizations, but unfortunately there wasn't enough time to implement them for 1.7

That's weird because the scene I was talking about has 19 render elements for lightmixer and, as I said, I'm using more ram now

I'll have to wait a little longer for the other optimizations then :)
