Scatter
  • Fixed scatter UV pattern random offset moving all objects only in one direction. Now the objects are properly moved in random directions. Old scenes are preserved via legacy checkbox.
  • Fixed a bug causing low CPU utilization when setting spline scatter random seed
DR
  • Fixed incorrect status report that the remove side is not responding
  • Fixed incorrect representation of non-ascii characters in camera name on slaves (https://corona-renderer.com/bugs/view.php?id=2669)
  • Fixed hang when closing DR server during render
  • Better error reporting when slaves do not have a 3ds Max version capable of rendering received scene
Image Editor
  • PNG files are now saved with proper alpha channel.

Attached is the comparison of the speedup. In this scene, the new sampler clears the noise about twice as fast as the old one.

  • Light preparation time is now correctly considered in VFB stats https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,16964.0.html
  • Maxscript cameras extended from the Physical camera now properly parse
  • Another significant speedup due to better sampling: scenes with glossy surfaces clean up faster, hair renders much faster and no longer produces faint colored fireflies

Attaching before/after images - they are (+-5%) rendered in the same time - disregard renderstamp, as they were rendered on different machines

  • Added license clarifying allowed use (short version: any commercial or noncommercial use in Corona renderer is allowed. Redistributing and converting to other renderers is forbidden)
  • Added right click menu to thumbnails with additional functions (selecting objects in scene with given material applied, etc.)
  • Updated material pack (smaller size)
Misc
  • Fixed: Hair&Fur not rendering in instance mode https://corona-renderer.com/bugs/view.php?id=2777
  • Base object for hair&fur is now rendered
  • Postprocessing Tint is now applied in sRGB color space, meaning the color you select in picker is exactly the same color shown in the postprocessed image
  • Added inverse color picker into Corona color picker, allowing to perform white balance in Corona VFB via color tint
  • Fixed bug where during uninstallation Corona Uninstaller did not uninstall Corona Uninstaller
  • CoronaCamera now has object include/exclude option
  • Fixed minor bugs in CoronaCamera drawing

Added adaptive direct light sampling
  • In the latest build we introduce a new adaptive light sampling algorithm. It improves rendering times by learning which scene lights are important in particular scene location. Such lights then receive more rays than the others which results in a lower noise level. Up to 6 times speedup can be achieved. The algorithm is used automatically whenever there are at least two lights in the scene and it needs no parameters setting.
  • The new algorithm is more complicated then the previous one, therefore the number of rays per second can decrease. Several percents drop is usual though also 20 % less rays per second can be encountered in some scenes. If you come across even lower rates, please let us know.
  • Despite the lower number of rays per second, the same image quality should be reached in a shorter time than before. The speedup is scene dependent and ranges from tens to hundreds of percents. The algorithm works the best in scenes with a higher number of lights (100 and more), in scenes with lights with complex emission profiles or in scenes with high occlusion, i.e. where lot of emission from lights is blocked by obstacles. On the other hand, in scenes with just one light or in scenes where all lights shine everywhere no improvement is expected.
  • In rare cases some artifacts may appear, typically in a form of blocks with different noise level around shadow boundaries. Again, if you notice some, please report them to us.

1.7 RC6 is out!

  • Material Library browser root category is now expanded when the window is launched for the first time
  • Selected category in Material Library is now preserved while changing filters or marking materials as favorite or not favorite.
  • Added Corona Camera tooltips
  • Added option to clear node in Corona Camera focus node slot (right click menu)
  • Fixed crash with Corona Bitmap, when empty bitmap was being displayed in viewport
  • Optimized the new direct light sampler inter-thread communication - this should benefit mostly machines with high number of cores
  • Fixed freezing of some controls in Corona Camera
  • fixed crash when saving render element as cxr to invalid path
  • Fixed camera cone sometimes not shown when camera itself is out of view
  • Fixed loading OutputTex from Corona 1.6 with positive saturation (we had to compensate for saturation being 3 times stronger now than it was in 1.6)

RC7. At this moment we are just waiting for the rounded edges, and some last direct light solver fixes

  • Corona 1.7 scenes can now be opened in 1.6
  • Fixed crash with extremely uneven scene dimensions (100 000 x 100 000 x 1 meter)
  • Set camera motion blur duration to 0.5 frames, previously was 1 frame
  • Improved some tooltip wording, added tooltip to skin mtl SSS mode
  • Fixed crash when scene load failed
  • Corona Camera: some properties (targetted, include/exclude list) are no longer taken from last camera when creating new one
  • Corona Camera is now drawn with different icons for panoramatic projections

  • Fixed blurring/sharpening creating offset in masks - https://corona-renderer.com/bugs/view.php?id=2838
  • Fixed warning about MSI being spammed in DR log
  • Fixed interactive not updating when map is plugged/unplugged to another map. Note that this is revert of another bugfix from 1.7 dailies  - so navigating slate editor will now again cause random interactive restarts like in 1.6)
  • Added old rounded edges mode (properly rounding across different meshes) back.

  • Fixed crash after few hours of rendering in some special cases when using the new direct light solver
  • Fixed excessive memory usage and some cases of bad performance of the new direct light solver
  • Fixed bias sometimes caused by the new direct light solver in media
  • Made the new direct light solver optional and off by default (there is switch in performance settings) to prevent problems in scenes with nonphysical fakes and transparent lights that we cannot fix now. We will fix these problems for the 1.8 release, and the solver will be always enabled
  • Fixed standalone exports of dispersion
