Anyone done any extensive testing on the new image filters ? Which one works best ? Seems the new default is Parabolic, how does it compare to Tent ?

Wasn't it changed back? Since late April it's 2px tent.

When default was changed back I submited a mantis report, for tooltip saying parabolic instead of tent, was fixed.
Also pretty sure default is tent, although on mobile now, so cant double check.

Edit: maybe you setup a maxstart file with a different filter and it remembers it?

Image filter is specified in config file. I checked Corona folder and latest config file in my PC is of may-08, so apparently 1.4 installer didn't wrote its own config file. That explains why everyone gets different defaults. But that doesn't explain why tooltip is saying that default is Parabolic.

Has anyone reported this on Mantis already?
I think that the order/number of filters changed, so now if you load up an old scene from 1.3 the filter is different than it should be.
Also, the tooltip should be updated.

I reported tooltips today.

As for filter order, well... conf files has human readable properties for many things, including filter types, for almost half year now, so i don't think that's the case: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,7238.msg68570.html#msg68570

I think you hit the nail on the head, I am opening "old" scenes and those are parabolic.

Saires: I couldn't setup even if I wanted, because there was no such thing as parabolic in 1.3 afaik.

Still, any description of what all these filters do ? Why suddenly so many ?

This confused me, too. Old scenes open with Parabolic, default on new scenes is Tent at 2 pixels.

I tested them all, and I was the one who suggested tent. I did some test with super fine checker texture and simple geometry, to test both filtering of textures and sharpness of edges. Tent still came out best, and caused less moire than parabolic. That's why it was reverted back.

The image filter type makes such small difference, that it honestly does not matter that much which one you use in my opinion. I will doublecheck the tooltip vs. defaults
