what is the best way to go about this?

Decorating a room that doesn't have windows is one of the biggest design challenges. The lack of natural light can leave the space dark and cave like, which certainly doesn't help create a comfortable, inviting vibe for the room. If you're faced with decorating a room that has no natural light, however, all hope isn't lost. With a few basic changes and additions, you can help brighten even the darkest, dingiest room so your family actually enjoys spending time in it.
Use Artificial Light
Choose the Right Color
Use Reflective Surfaces and
Add Greenery

It may be a matter of taste, but I'd use exclusively down-lights and, maybe, wallwashers/bounced light.
Never lighting fixtures that send light everywhere.

that scenario will always be a tricky challenge for anyone. no natural light makes us losing the depth. and can be less photorealistic if without better materials details of course.
and I guess they are photographers has their tricks.
every comments here are makesense and useful but it would be great if someone can post the example of interior with no natural light renders.
