Well, I am bit perplexed by that... Prime X399-A and Zenith Alpha are both by Asus. The ROG means it's just "premium" Asus product. Asus has Quality Control issues, but anytime it does, it pays more attention to fixing the expensive product (i.e. ROG) than the budget product (Prime series).

You bought cheaper board without even trying to take the memory out and put it back it?
Yeah, I actally did a shit load of testing with different sets of ram and slots, and I came to the conclussion my dimm C1 slot was faulty.
So far my workstation has been running smooth AF.

In the mobo's defense it did its duty for a good while.
For my new threadripper built I'l probably go back to ROG, since I'm a gamer to.

I have a Threadripper 2990WX, but it seems i'm way behind the benchmark average.
I have 128GB ram, only 96 is recognized though, its clocked at 2933htz or something.

This is the issue. Because of this, it probably runs single-channel and this absolutely tanks performance.

There are three possible causes behind not recognized DIMMs:

- (Most common) Memory is not correctly seated. It's very easy to actually do this, as it has to very firmly "click". Double or tripple check every module if it's 100perc. correctly seated. If only one DIMM is wrong, it will disable full channel, so two DIMMs (hence why 128 --> 96)
- (Less common) CPU is not correctly seated and is not recognising all memory channels. With Threadripper sockets, this is less common, but with uneven CPU cooler pressure can still happen. CPU cooler has to be very firmly screwed down.
- (Least common) Faulty DIMM. Sometimes happen, I had just recently returned Corsair Vengeance (4x16) because one module died. This is pickle to troubleshoot, because if only one DIMM dies, the CPU will disable the full channel so it appears like two modules are wrong (so you will go from 128 to 96).

Like Lolec said, your CPU cooler is also wrong, but your issue is with memory, the most common issue with PCs :- ).

I actually ended up buying a new (bad cooler) and Asus prime X399-A motherboard. It fixed everything.
I love ROG, but they have a shit load of issues with their mobos imho.

Your cooler is insufficient. I should know, the first 2990x build I did, I used that same cooler and got the same results,  thankfully, I listened to juraj and ordered a noctua. The difference is night and day.

The issue is coverage. The is not a single of-the-shelf liquid cooler that offers 100% coverage for threadripper (except enermax, with terrible quality control and reports of leaks and rust, even for the latest revision)

If you want to water cool, you have to go custom loop. Otherwise Noctua
I ended up buying the Enermax 360 TR4 II AIO cooler, horrible reviews but it was the only one my local pc shop had.
Gonna change this one ASAP.

Max rendering feels really slow! en the vfb lags quite a lot.
My setup:
Zenith Extreme
Threadripper 2990WS
Corsair vengeance RGB 3200htz RAM -> 128 in total.
PSU: BeQuiet 1000 wat
Liquid Cooler Kraken X62
And Strix 1080TI

My benchmnark is around 1minute  and 7 seconds?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do I find out which one?
Texture map plugin is missing
Offending map: Map #2138796078

So how do i find out which map that is?

thank you!

Glad you solved it!

Just one single OT question:

It's a HPE proliant 580 G7

What's the Corona Benchmark result of this.... beast? 50-60 seconds?

Good Luck

52 seconds! only 500 euros, but loud as hell.
Along with my Threadripper my 2hour render went to 25min, pretty darn crazy :D

Looks strange, not like the usual missing environment asset. But anyway:

Are you sure that the slave has access to all needed assets? Use Shift-T and check all paths (enter "ATSOps.CheckNetworkPaths=true" in the max script listener window before, or even better: put this in a script in your scripts\startup directory). All assets should be flagged as "OK" (not only "Found"). However, this looks more like some exposure/gamma issue.

- The slave max is correctly set to gamma 2.2 I presume?
- Do you have any error/warning in the DrServer window?
- Have you used batch rendering here?
- Which version of Corona and Max is this?
- Do you use a plugin which could cause it? (All used plugins have to be installed on the slave as well)
- Which view/camera is this? (perspective/CoronaCamera/PhysicalCamera...)
- Are the language settings the same on both computers?
- And out of curiosity: what's the reason for running a server OS on the node? :)

there is more noise at 250 passes then if I would render it local.

That's unfortunately always the case when using dr vs. single node when rendering the same amount of total passes.

Good Luck

I figured it out by now, i didn't have vray installed on the slave, so it was missing the HDRI map.
The machine I bought only works on server lol.
It's a HPE proliant 580 G7, lotta cores, cheap on the web, however for some reason it only connects to the internet with server 2012 lol.

Thanks for the list btw, i might need it in the future lol.

Hi all,

I was wondering, I bought myself a server to use as a renderfarm. So I have no experience with distributed rendering so far.
But I notice when I use distributed rendering my image becomes darker and there is more noise at 250 passes then if I would render it local.

Server runs on Window server 2012 R2.

The server itself has no GPU.. Not sure if that would have anything to do with that.

Kind Regards,

Hi all,

I have a serious problem i'v been trying to get my images rendered on Rebus for over 2 days now.
I set the limit to 250 passes but all my images come out noisy.

Like really noisy, then I made a testscene, just a tree and plane/hdri map sent it over it gets back super noisy.
The thing is, on my machine 75 passes are cleaner then 250 passes on rebus.

Now i'v been using Rebus for over 2 years and never had any problems like this.
I even downgraded to hotfix 1 because they haven't added hotfix 2 yet.

then I tried another renderfarm and I got the same result. So now i'm starting to think its on my end.
I tried resetting rendersettins but nothing helps.

Please someone, i'm running against a hard deadline with no solution in sight.
Also re-installed corona. And tried it even in an older version of max.

Kind regards,

I'm getting light leaks when rendering a scene. The leaks are understandable at the edges of the wall, but the columns are solids sticking trough the roof - so there shouldn't be any leaks.

Did not have this problem in 1.4. Does every surface have to be "shelled" in order to not get leaks, or is this just a bug?
Even in 1.4 if my ceiling wasn't shelled I would get light leaks.
Same goes for the floor.

so if I understand this correctly; when I would render my job with rebus farm, I wouldn't be getting the bloom and glare?

there used to be a way to change the resolution from the max material editor?
It was under system, but it seems to be gone?

Where did it get moved to?

You're awesome :D
