Is the interactive continuing normally or is it stuck in the geometry phase (Stats tab of the VFB) ?

Hello,

I came across this problem 2-3 times in the past, in different projects. All of the times I am almost certain it was because of Forest Pack.

The crash would occur randomly, even if you moved/rotated another object irrelevant to the Forest objects, sometimes after 1 minute, sometimes after 5 minutes.

I upgraded to the latest Forest Pack Pro 9 that had a bugfix regarding crashes in IR with large objects but didn't fix it (I didn't remake the Forest Objects though, in case they had corrupted settings from Forest Pack 8).

I enden up remaking all Forest objects, rebuilding the surfaces they were scattered on (collapsing their stack and any parametric modifier they had e.g. Conform).

I pinned it down to some specific Forest objects (lots of small rocks scattered on the terrain) that seemed to lead to a crash when they where visible but, due to the randomness of the issue I am not 100% sure they were the culprit. I deleted those and the problem was gone.

After some more digging I found the following bugfix in the latest Forest Pack.

Forest Pack 9.2.2 // Fixed accumulative performance issue in large Forest objects, when rendering interactively multiple times.

Since there are multiple heavy Forest objects in the scene they may the culprit. I am updating and will report back my findings.

I am running IR and after moving some geometry (randomly, not specific objects) the VFB gets stuck on the Geometry phase which seems to go up indefinitely. Stopping the IR causes Max to freeze and requires force close.

It probably has to do with some specific geometry in the scene but I thought I'd share the problem in case someone has faced something similar.

Also, why does the Geometry phase need to finish so that you can stop IR? Stopping IR while calculating geometry is something that has been requested from 2018-2019, from wht I found on the forums.

Corona 11 (Hotfix 2), 3ds Max 2024

Anyone having any similar experience? Is this a known limitation (merging .max files causes IR to stop) or do I have to reset my preferences again?

I am using Corona version: 11 (Hotfix 1) and 3ds Max 2024. I am using Connecter 7.0.

I mostly drag & drop assets from the Connecter App but I tried merging assets through File > Import > Merge and it does the same thing. IR stops running and needs to start again.

After doing a bit more searching I think it has to do with Corona Proxy. Corona Proxies don't seem to stop IR when merging but regular .max files do. All Cosmos assets are Corona Proxes afaik.

I couldn't find something similar in the forums but my experience is that importing Assets from Cosmos (they come as Corona proxies) keeps IR running but importing them from our own libraries (through Connecter) stops IR and it has to be started again.

Is this something that can be fixed?

Hi all,

I am typically sitting at around 4 hours to get a 4K interior shot at around 3-4% noise level on a 3970x 32cores (which usually means leaving the PC rendering overnight) because I like the crispiness and the details, but most of my clients find the IR CPU-denoised 2K results (10 minutes at most) sufficient for most things (maybe up until the final delivery).

I am sure many of you are rendering at lower resolutions and the upscaling so I want to ask if there is any AI upscaling software you have had good results with and would recommend?

I've been working on 2 3970x machines (identical) for 3-4 years now and I've had zero issues. The only thing is after long rendering sessions the frequency may drop to ~3.45GHz (less than the advertised 3.7) but that may be to cooling (using Noctuas NH-U14S single fan). Otherwise pretty stable system!

A little off-topic but I see this processor is not that far away in bencharks than my own threadripper 3970x that I bought for 3-4x the price (some years ago). Is the consumer line of AMDs now that capable?

My experience is this exactly, the only way to take advantage of the discount is to cancel and purchase a new yearly licence IF you remember it in time (not being able to cancel one month before the yearly subscription is over is pure corporate greed - change my mind). I did that last year and guess what - I lost the corona nodes that came with my subsription prior to the first price increases that took place.

I didn't need them either way but to answer aaouviz's question, I'm not aware of ANY discount auto-renew gives you, in fact cancelling and purchasing anew is cheaper if you take advantage of the discount.

I found this script that adds simple note objects, but unfortunately they have to be linked to the base object.

The simplest would maybe be to just put the note in the name :)

Maybe a text object (mesh) attached to the main one with a material (using multisubobject) that has zero opacity so it won't render? Not the prettiest but may work for your case.

I was experiencing the exact same thing here . Unfortunately I could not find the time to send a scene, but hopefully yours will help find the culprit.

I am getting a similar kind of slowdown in IR when the denoising is set to Intel GPU AI. Maybe related to GPU age/drivers?

Majeranek maybe try disabling it and report back!
