[Max] I need help! / Re: Corona 3 Installation error
« on: 2021-03-24, 18:07:51 »
I remember having the same issue some time ago, but the it just disappeared.
If everything works fine in 3ds Max, then there is nothing to worry about.
If you want to make sure that the new version is installed 100% correctly, you can do this:
1) Uninstall Corona Renderer from Windows "Programs and Features"
2) Go to C:/Program Files/Autodesk/3ds Max 2014/scripts/Startup/ and manually remove the CoronaRenderer_InitScripts.ms file (it is perfectly safe to do)
3) Then run the V3 installer
4) Once the installation is finished, go to /scripts/Startup/ again and make sure that the file is there

It looks like the issue may be related to some admin rights, so for some reason the installer cannot replace/overwrite the existing file.

I had this same problem when upgrading from Corona 5 to Corona 6 and your solution resolved the problem. Thank you Maru.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Reflection Override Issue
« on: 2020-05-27, 23:13:54 »
Hi, I'm not sure what you mean exactly. But if you are having issues with the jpeg having a much darker reflection than you expect then I'd say try going into the output parameters and raising the RGB amount to make it brighter. See if that helps. Make sure also the jpeg is set up so it's mapped correctly in the reflection slot. I don't know if you want it set to screen so it's reflecting as a screen background, or if you want it set to environment and spherical. So mapping could also be a contributing factor. You could also try a Corona Bitmap or a regular Bitmap and see if that changes anything.

Off-Topic / Re: where do you get backplates?
« on: 2020-05-20, 17:41:05 »
Well usually you get them from the person who sells the HDRI. For example we bought some HDRIs from hdri-skies.com and they came with backplates which are 5456 x 3632. I know Peter Guthrie also sells his with backplates and I assume most of the rest of the compnies selling HDRIs sell them with backplates.

In terms of free backgrounds HDRI Haven often have backplates with their HDRIs, which are free.
Recently I used some from https://www.pexels.com/
You can also find some on Deviant Art

I finished this project recently, which was for a local client. I largely used procedural materials - bricks (Bercon maps), cladding, paving and cobblestones. The same materials also had displacement. The client asked I keep his logo on the image when sharing it.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Getting a shear effect on curtains

I posted a short tutorial showing how to do it. There are other options, but this just shows a simple way to create the effect. I hope it helps.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Jewelry Rendering - 3DSMAX
« on: 2020-05-18, 06:46:42 »
Well it depends on what you are trying to replicate. So you'd need to find a source image that you like and then work towards that. You'd need to then find all of the details which went into that shot and add those to yours - it depends how the photographer has set up his scene. Obviously a ring or metal item is very reflective so it's going to pick up a lot of details surrounding the scene and I guess that's why you added the HDRI. However adding an HDRI isn't the same as recreating the scene. I would start by looking for YouTube videos showing how to do jewellery photography and set up your scene in the same way. Make sense?

Yes, marchik is right. Best bet is to create it with geometry. You need to create a shape like the attached and extrude. I created it with circles and a rectangle.

Also, simplify your scene if it's taking too long on the tests. You can take the foliage for example and put it into another scene and then xref it in at render time. Also take any internal furniture and put that in another scene. Basically just strip it back to the main building and test that, it shouldn't take too long that way.

Hi Maru and Romullus, Okay, well understood, yeah it doesn't change the world. I was using output and colour correction to adjust it, it might not quite match the source but it gets pretty close. And you're right, I didn't use Corona Hair material - that would have been nice. :)

That's an interesting fact about Arnold too. It's very similar.

Hi Romullus,

So, I've just checked and it's now at 1920 x 1080.

It works on any object, I figured it out while trying to get it to work on a cat I was putting in a scene. It will copy whatever mapping you have on the base object, so as long as that's correct, all good.

Here's how the cat looks.

Best, Tom

Hi Romullus, I uploaded at 2640 by 1440 - I guess it's taking a little while longer than usual for youtube to process it.

Best, Tom

YouTube state:

When you upload a video, it will initially be processed in low resolution. This helps the video to upload faster. Once your upload has been completed, your video will be available to stream in low resolution, usually 360p, on a wide variety of devices.

Higher resolutions, such as 4K or 1080p, can take more time to process. While this happens, your video may appear to be missing high-quality options, such as 4K or 1080p, for several hours. Once high-resolution processing is finished, higher resolutions will be available on your video.

Hi Maru, I just wanted to say I've been playing around with Hair and Fur and figured out how to get the texture showing through. I've just posted a tutorial on youtube showing how to do it. I hope it helps some people with similar issues. Here's the link:
