Gallery / Coffee Cup with Character Art drawings
« on: 2024-11-16, 01:51:01 »
Hello everyone,

Maybe something a bit different from usual. I made this render as a mock-up/presentation of the character art sketches we made for Noonie (a children IP). It was fun to concept a Noonie coffee-cup with chocolate powder in the shape of a Noonie. I used Corona Decals for the engraved Noonie on the spoon, the golden stars on the cup and the chocolate powder on the foam.

The paper was done with Translucency. The wooden table was done with the slightest amount of SSS and Sheen to create a sense of "fuzz".

Hope you like it :)

Gallery / Lunar Phases | A Transcendental Moon Orbit
« on: 2024-11-06, 00:32:00 »

I created the following animation of the Moon with the use of an accurate moon-orbit setup.
The moon uses a 92K height map by Tuomas Kankola. The stars are our own 32-bit star plates which are available for free on https://www.blauwfilms.com/product/star-system

Hope you enjoy it :)

@Maru Thanks a lot mate!
I'm just now seeing your reply. That's great information. Going to give that a try. Cheers

@BigAI3D Thank you! That's a good point.
Ok, I'm going to look into that and I'll confirm if it worked :)

[C4D] I need help! / Camera Lens Distortion in Corona?
« on: 2024-07-03, 14:37:26 »
Hello everyone :)

For a project we need to match our 3D renders with a backplate shot on a variety of cine-lenses.
We have access to the lens-distortion profiles but I can't find a way to use them in Corona C4D.

Anyone know if that's possible and how?

All the best,

Leo

Hello guys,

I've been working on a project for which I need photorealistic fabrics that behave naturally under different light situations.
I'd love to use Chaos Corona for that :)

Raphael Rau (Silverwingvfx) made a tutorial a little while back on the use of OSL Shader to create a natural falloff on your fabric materials.

The tutorial covers two examples:
1. Without OSL: using a Ray Direction node in Octane (couldn't find a similar node for Corona) + Normal Direction node (not sure how I'd approach this either).
2. With the OSL approach

The image I've attached is the the material sample I'm working with.
It is currently using a simple fabric material with sheen and a standard normal map.

Would anyone know how to replicate the normal-based falloff effect in Corona?
Or if the OSL approach is doable within Corona?

All the best, Leo

Thank you @pokoy!! I agree hahah. Something that seems simple at first can get very complex once you're looking for a specific result.

Oh noo my secret it out!! You got me @TomG, I love spending my weekends in orbit ;)

Thank you :)

@steppes Hahah! Yes 100%. That makes a lot of sense.
I've been making a few new renders without Displacement and it looks so much better already. Thanks!

Gallery / Saturn's Ice Rings
« on: 2024-05-02, 02:59:01 »
Hello everyone,

Here are a few renders of my Saturn setup. I was looking to get bright white icy rings around the planet.
With these renders I was mainly looking for dramatic lighting and an interesting composition :)
Hope you like it!

Thank you everyone! I'm happy to hear all of this :)

And @steppes, wow... I looked this up and went down a rabbit-hole of the relative size of the Earth.
Very good point. Thanks. I was honestly already feeling that the Earth was "feeling small" with the Displacement turned on.
The scale felt off.

This is incredible! There is a great variation of different roughness values throughout the image.
All the details read really well.

There is a beautiful soft bloom around the edges of the sky.
Is that a volume or is it done through tone-mapping?

That is truly beautiful looking grass!!
All those surface variations give the render so much dynamism.
Would love to hear more about your process in achieving such great results for greenery :)
