[Max] I need help! / Re: Direct light resolution/accuracy?
« on: 2015-09-15, 21:18:30 »
OK, thanks.

- jpjapers: No portal light, only corona sun.
- juang3d: Tanks, I will try that.
- maru & jpjapers: Thanks, so much years dealing with other renders where you have to set shadow bias, shadow resolution, etc... so when I saw rounded corners that was my first idea to fix it. After you answer... yes, it can be soft shadows + burn = hard rounded edges.

[Max] I need help! / Direct light resolution/accuracy?
« on: 2015-09-14, 23:11:02 »
Hi, I have a problem with my scene, I have a room with a window (no glass) and a corona sun, the problem is: the shadows projected by the sun through window to the floor aren't accurate, specially in corners, they look rounded.

Searched in forum, corona web page, etc... but I didn't find an option or solution to that, sorry if it was answered before.

Example with sun settings, render settings are default:

changes:
1. Del the lights in the windows
2. set portals
3. set Mult.Sun to 0.1
4. Set pt to 32
5. Set depth to default (25) and MSI=20
6. Set max rec. HD cahe to 200
this all
and yes, upgrade yours hadrware!

Thanks for all your help and your time. :D

For now I'll have to be patient until I save money for a new CPU.

resolution is less because there is no time to render, well, still not 10 hours will be in the original resolution!

Holy shit, 6.000.000 rays/s, mine is only 2.000.000, I think the noise is more related to my computer speed than the render settings.

So, did you do any changes in settings? Just for know if my settings are ok.

Thanks everybody for the help and patience with me (and don't kill me fot my bad english).

Can you share the scene?

Never!!  :P

Here it is, if you have an error locating 2 textures, don't worry, they were bluepints.

Edit: I added 2011 and 2014 max files to the zip.

No glass in windows.

It is corona sky, sky model hosek&wilkie.

This is the result after all tweaks you told me and I added corona rectangle lights to windows (this is the reason color changes a bit from the first render), It has noise, but I think is admissible, what do you think?

OK, I will try to render at 1080 and see what happens.

Walls and floor (for now, it is a wip) are 233,233,233 with 0,6 level in diffuse. BTW, all materials are at 0,6 lelvel.

Well, I don't know what to say more, the black piano has a lot of noise after 10 hours of render, you guys have settings of material and render in the image. Any tips? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

Polymax is right. I did few tests and it looks like is the only thing that works.

Sorry for my bad english.
