[Max] Bug Reporting / CoronaCam flips 180 degrees
« on: 2019-06-28, 12:51:13 »
Hi there

I have an issue that occurs from time to time with 3ds Max 2018 and Corona 3:
Suddenly, all my 3d geometry seems to have disappeared in the interactive rendering and the only thing that remains visible is the environment (HDRI or CoronaSky).
When I check the CoronaCam in topview, I notice that it rotated 180 degrees (the orientation of the camerabody in topview remains correct, it's just the cone that flips) and therefore the camera looks "back".
I usually solve this problem by checking and unchecking "targeted".
Currently there is no way to reproduce the bug. I will provide screenshots and a scene file whenever I experience it the next time.

Best wishes
Nicolas

Hi maru

Thanks for your reply, changing the refraction to thin did the trick.

Best wishes

Any ideas on this? :-)
Or do I simply have to render twice.

I'm glad I could help :-)
Happy rendering.

I'd guess that's because the sun theoretically is much much further away than the light sphere. So the sun symbol you see in the editor isn't actually the sun itself.

[Max] I need help! / [solved] shadowcatcher behind glass
« on: 2019-03-04, 10:07:43 »
Hi everybody

I have the following scenario in an animation project: I'm standing inside a room looking out through a window. To the ground outside I applied a ShadowCatcher Material, so I can later compose everything correctly (the background will be replaced by real footage an there are animated objects on the ground happening).
This works fine as long as I disable the window glass. When I turn it on, the shadowcatcher doesn't work anymore (same with the alpha - the ground plane becomes visible).
How can I make this work?
I thought I could simply disable "visible in masks" in the glass material, but this doesn't change anything.

Best wishes
Nicolas

Great, thanks a lot!

Hi maru

Thanks for your reply :-)
That's exactly what I want (well technically it's the client who wants it).
Understandable that this doesn't exist as it is completely fake.

[Max] I need help! / Reflections with include/exclude mode
« on: 2018-10-17, 16:36:27 »
Hi everybody!

I'm working on some product shots of chrome faucets. I have a couple different faucets inside the same scene (pretty complex with natural and artificial lighting).
Each shot of a faucet needs additional lighting to create the exact lighting/reflection I need, without affecting the surroundings - no problem, I can do the lighting with the include/exclude mode inside the corona light (where I only include the faucet).
Now I also need to control the dark reflections in the same way: Usually black planes/planes with a gradient, that should be visible only on the faucet. How can I achieve this (I could render twice, but this is not what I want)?
I thought I could use a Corona light as well - but there's one problem: If I turn "occlude other lights" on, I get the look I want on the faucet, but obviously the rest of my scene is affected as well. If I turn it off, the reflection is not working the way I want it to.

Thanks for any help :-)

Hi Ludvik

Thanks for your reply. We tried it, but couldn't find anything wrong with the file.
We managed to fix one file by converting the Railclone object to Poly.
In another file, we are still looking for a fix, because there aren't any Railclone objects.

Does anyone else also have the problem of a super slow scene after using Prune Scene to remove the virus?
It takes up to 5mins to open a file that used to be infected. Same with the Corona Interactve - it takes much longer to start now.

Hi maru

No, I don't use the new light solver.

I figured out now, where the problem came from:
For some reason, I had a refraction override active, which caused the artifacts.

Hi Ondra

If I right-click, there are numbers as pixel colors listed. So it's probably no NaNs.
I'll try to upload the scene tonight!

Hi there

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the incomplete information.
I'm working on 3ds Max 2017 with Corona 1.7.

The final is indeed using path tracing as primary solver and uhd cache as secondary, but force path tracing in IR is turned off.

Hi everybody

I'm currently working on a bathroom scene.
It's lighted with an HDRI and a couple of rectangular CoronaLights, most of them are invisible, with zero visibility in reflections, refractions and don't occlude other lights.
While I'm still in the interactive rendering, this works like a charm. But as soon as I render the final image, weird black artifacts start to appear. Turning off the artificial lights makes the artifacts go away.

Any idea on how to get rid of this?
Thanks in advance for your help

Best,
Nicolas
